COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I’ve just walked through Altrincham town centre after work and every pub was busy and the gym was too.

People don’t give a shit about being given advice. If they get some time off work, they’re going to the pub!

I can’t speak for every business/pub owner, but I can give you my own numbers which would suggest that isn’t accurate.

As it stands, my pub is in growth YOY. However, this last week and in particular the weekend just gone, I have started to see the numbers drop.

Saturday was the biggest drop yet at over 60% YOY decline. It literally fell off a cliff.

Today has been horrendous. Monday is generally a quiet day anyway, right across the industry, but so far I’ve taken just £600 where I’d normally be looking at 1.5 to 2k.

I haven’t figured out how I’ll pay my staff yet, or indeed what this thing will do long term.

Tricky times indeed!

So what is the actual state of play with isolating now, from what I understand if you display symptoms you isolate for 7 days but now I’m hearing if you do your whole family has to isolate for 14!! So is it 7 or 14. I’m confused as fuck.
As I understand it, once you show symptoms you may have incubated it for 7 days. So 7 more days until you are clear. 14 days in total for you.

If a family member catches it off you today, they might show in 7 days and need a further 7 days to clear. Hence 14 days from now.

Not sure if that helps?

The biggest problem as I can see with the govt position is

Staffing of the nhs
Equipment
Beds
Finances for those who should isolate
Apathy and general fuckwittery of the public.

The press conference didn’t give much confidence in those areas.

Just announced.

Macron has told everyone to stay in their homes, guarantees that he'll help all businesses stay afloat and wipes all gas, electric and water bills for the foreseeable.
Well that must certainly ov lifted the spirits proper statement

Similarly confused wouldn't describe mine as chronic but on the flu jab list all the same. My sister reckons anyone recommended for the 12_week isolation will receive a text message from their GP. Her ex (rheumatoid arthritis) low immune system and my Auntie 70+ have had texts from theirs this afternoon.
I wouldn’t rely on a surgery’s admin being 100%, mate.

I am not sure it will have initially lifted spirts, but I do think it is helpful to create a sense of unified action that requires shared sacrifice and perseverance.

It gives everyone a collective purpose and drive to overcome diversity through collaboration and compassion.

Doing that can be incredibly positive to the general mindset of each person trying to cope with what is happening now and what is to come.

In a sense, many of us get that off here — even though we disagree on many things, the vast majority of us keep coming on because we care about everyone on BM and the discussion helps us feel part of a greater collective responding to the crisis.

As many have said, no matter what, we are in this together and I for one will do anything within my means to support others battling through this, in-person or virtually.
