COVID-19 — Coronavirus

My daughter was chatting to one of her kids teachers yesterday. The subject of who is on the list cropped up. At the time my daughter wasn’t sure if she would be classed as an essential worker (she is). The teacher told her that they already had a list of pupils who they expected to be at school, “for planning purposes”. Obviously they would know which pupils would be classed as vulnerable but I was surprised that they seemed to have some knowledge of parents occupations.

I suspect that schools will use some discretion as to which kids they’ll let in. My daughter was told “don’t worry, you’re a single mother, you’re on our list”

they can’t use discretion.
It’ll lead to rioting at the gates.
What’s a single mother anyway?
Over 50% of kids are born outside marriage already.
The govt list excludes hardly anyone anyway it’s so vague.

Just did what I would laughingly call the weekly shop. Shelves stripped. No toilet paper, no soap of any description, very restricted fresh fruit and veg, tinned goods, bakery. No fucking cat litter (we have an indoor cat). On the bright side there were bouquets aplenty for Mother’s Day. How the hell is anyone expected to self isolate if they can’t get the basics. I wonder who on the governments war council is pointed at this problem which would seem on the face of it easier to fix than ventilators.

The government IS TOTALLY following the advice of its experts. Not a few of them but a lot of them.
The way scientific & public health advice process works via the government SAGE network (Scientific Advice for Government in Emergencies) nework was described yesterday by Professer Whitty and Sir Patrick Valance. it was a highly illuminating press conference and starts 5:30 into the video.

It is quite apparant that as scientific fact becomes established on this virus, advice will change and our government WILL act on this advice as Boris Johnson is being led by this advice.

The effect will be a gradual ratcheting up of measures till the measures work. I for one am delighted in this as we will know for sure the effect of each measure. Simply firing from the hip and imposing a complete lock down WILL NOT determine the effectiveness of each measure so you wouldn't have a clue what measures to relax when the time comes. This dramatically reduces the chances of a seceod spike in virus cases down the line.
EDIT: They know within two days or so as to the effects of a change.

I can understand the wartime spirit stuff but there's no comparison. A vox pop elderly woman saying if we stop going out "we're just giving in to it" as if the virus was a terror attack, and Simon Callow bemoaning theatres going dark - "Coronavirus is winning where Adolf Hitler and the IRA failed". The doodlebug is in the seat next to you!

https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...horities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

looking at the list of key workers you are unlucky if you aren’t one of them!
The annoying thing is the bland promises. "If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has a parent who is a critical worker, then educational provision will be available for them." Who's going to make it available?

It's the same with money to help businesses and employees. "This will happen". How? We'll think about that tomorrow.

do you know what where I live the people who are in pubs restaurants and cafes seem to be the older vulnerable crowd - the “you have just to get on with it “ crew .
Unfortunately age is never a good guide to stupidity, however for every person in the pub etc. there are many more who are not.

Let them stand out as selfish to frankly give Boris ammo to enforce lockdown.

In Spain Police here take it very seriously and fine those who disobey because even though in lockdown there are still people of all ages who think they can get away with it.

“Theatres going dark” is possibly the expression I dislike the most in the English language. It is sinfully smug and pretentious.

It works in some aspects, for example getting on board with having less material things and being sensible with provisions but going about your normal day as a sort of defiance, is absolutely fucking stupid.

The virus wins if it lasts as long as possible and there’s only one way to stop that.

Headteachers of schools were sent an email on Wednesday night detailing the who, what or where. Just because you’re not on the mailing list doesn’t mean things are not being organised.
As an addendum, Local Authorities have a responsibility to co-ordinate the action in their area but I don’t see you having a dig at them.

Bloody hell... With some employers still expecting normal meetings, here's a prime example of not distancing from other people!

I'm glad my mum didn't have to put up with this shit - she checked out in early Jan. I can't imagine what the same hospital ward now looks like.

Less so than your reply. Is that what's worrying you today?

"Social distancing" must be the worst expression in the world when it means "physical distancing".

Just had to go to Sainsbury's for a couple of things such as milk and bread. Go to self serve check out and wait three yards behind person in front. Woman came up right behind me as if she was marking me at a corner. Luckily guy in front moved forward so I was able to escape my man marker. This is why the disease is spreading because people are plain stupid
