Westerns

How far does Elisha Cook Jr fly backwards when that bullet hits him? One of the great scenes.
Brilliant scene, one of the best, Jack is one piece of work hahaha.

This thread got me watching Unforgiven again., Great cinematography.
English Bob sure got a good kicking.

Haha, I love that this is a recurring thread on Bluemoon (along with Laurel & Hardy)... I always make sure to reccomend Godless on Netflix. It's a mini series, great acting, good story, new ideas and modern production but with loads of authentic atmosphere and details of the way the west was.

A Fistful of Dynamite is a great spaghetti western that gets forgotten about - James Coburn and Rod Steiger.

Certainly one of my faves, the score is superb.

Saw the trailer one day, when it first appeared, thought I'll give this a go. Binged it in one go, very good.

The Western really is a great film genre, and apart from the obvious classics(of which there are many) nearly all being listed on this thread. There are still many great westerns that are less quoted, these for me include........ Hombre, starring Paul Newman and Richard Boone. Ulzanas Raid with Burt Lancaster, then there is Jeremiah Johnson with Robert Redford. Open Range with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall( one of my fav actors) and Michael Gambon is in it too. Also, could Last of the Mohicans be classed as a western? a fantastic film. While on the subject, I remember as a youngster there was an LP in our house, (probably my dads), called great western movie themes, which had all the classic scores from various films of that ilk.

The Outlaw Josey Wales
Little Big Man

Chief Dan George steals every scene in both pictures !!

Last of the Mohicans is brilliant on so many levels, it’s my favourite film of all time. Dances with Wolves a close second!
