my mate flew back from Sri Lanka this week through Dubai. Lots of people on the plane coughing and spluttering and old people who had been stranded on cruise ships Around the world . Gets to Manchester airport not a single check, or question to any person coming in. All walked in .

Truly shocking. Appalling. WTF are we thinking???

I don't know if people have really thought about this, but if we (thought experiment only) locked every single person in the UK in their homes or in somewhere else where they could not spread infection, then in 2 or 3 weeks this virus would be GONE. Everyone infected would have either got better or died, and that would be the end of it. The UK would be virus-free and all we would have to do is strictly control visitors from abroad. Other than that, we'd be back to normal, no NHS overloading, no excess deaths, no ongoing isolation measures, sorted. If there''s 100k people infected today that would mean up to 250k people infected in their own homes and maybe 10k people dead. Finished, done, sorted.

Now remember I said "thought experiment" so clearly we cannot do this. But it illustrates the point. Clamp down *hard* and we get this under control quickly. Fanny about, allowing wankers to carry on without a care in the world, and let the crisis escalate in front of our eyes.
What we should probably have done is to isolate the vulnerable much much sooner and let the likely mildly infected people carry on and catch it. Whilst this herd immunity idea isn’t very popular, in reality it is the only way out of it, unless a vaccine is found.

yeah but we need to be careful just because someone or a couple or family have gone for a walk should not be seen as irresponsible. So long as they are not socially interacting with others , meeting friends etc there is no harm.

if you want to see cramped and close contact try a supermarket !!! We were much safer walking around a field on our own than going to the supermarket .

I agree with that. The Mrs and I went for a walk along the canal yesterday.

There’s hardly anyone on it as it’s quite rural and when you pass someone you just keep your distance.

The Snowdonia incident on Saturday was just not common sense.

Some people are obviously getting it wrong but a lot of that is down to no concrete advice given specially the rules regarding fresh air etc, as mentioned there are some people who just don't care a jot it's those that we should focus on. I don't know if we can get a virus from joggers, what do we do if we have to share a communal garden or landing?
If it's johnny tapia jogging past, just hold your breath for three hours after he's gone. Unless he's jogging round a field with kevin horlocks wand and his family, in which case dive into a hedge.

Apologies if already posted but is it seriously going to take thousands of deaths for them to understand.

What don't people understand about essential business and travel only.

Wife has just got off FaceTime with her 73yo mum. She already has been ignoring what we've been trying to tell her this past week but last night she went to bed at 6pm with a headache and sore throat. She was at Stanley park yesterday and today she's apparently recovered enough to have a walk on the prom and try to pick up some lunch from somewhere. Apparently there are only 5 cases on the Fylde coast so her and her partner won't get it. My wife's best friend's husband is a doctor so we already know that's bollocks but they just won't be told.

It is absolutely inevitable that she's going to get it.

the old and vulnerable don’t think they are old and vulnerable which is a problem as they ignore advice given to them , I am not making a political point but Corbyn over 70 should not be working and staying home and setting an example but even he isn’t.

Sorry, but it's not that easy. Where's your cut-off point for the vulnerable? In a totalitarian society you could do it (and there'd still be complications, and many people finding ways of getting round it). But in a democratic, consultative society?

I am afraid the experts who got this wrong were the scientists in the early days including the WHO. The global spread of this was aided by a complete lax response to air travel. It was in a very few countries and only a few cases but the advice from the experts was stopping global travel was not needed as cases were in one country and in another so therefore it is ok to travel between countries .

that proved to be bollox. Countries with heavy outbreaks early on should have been shut down and flights in and out stopped. The travel from regions with lots of cases such as Italy and Spain continued in this country unchecked and people globally were able to travel freely around the world spreading the virus from country to country .

the epicentre in Europe seemed to be Italy but until very recently travel in and out of Italy around Europe was perfectly permissible.

The response of our borders and airports has been nothing short of an absolute joke. People are moaning about people going for a walk today my mate flew back from Sri Lanka this week through Dubai. Yep as an island we should have been restricting people coming here from the countries really hit by the virus and testing at the airports,we lost our advantage as an island,we also fucked up with the herd immunity crap,i am afraid we have got this terribly wrong

Not arrest them but advising them to self isolate, as we are about to do. Could have done it at the start of March, as they’re the vast majority of patients going into hospital, as they always are of course.

Snowdonia National Park Authority said its area "experienced its busiest ever visitor day in living memory" on Saturday.

Utter bellends
I think the reasons for this behaviour go beyond stupidity, some seem incapable of changing their mindset when presented with a sudden and severe change to their usual lifestyle, they simply can't handle it.
