Just had a text confirming that I have to stay at home but loads of caveats to that, it's a bit wishy washy lots of wiggle room and there is no way on earth that these recommendations will stop the spread of this virus. They are even moving the at risk criteria about to suit them, noticing that they have removed diabetics from the at risk group.

Children can be ferried about from house to house, people can still go to work if the employer decides they can and people crammed onto trains and buses, you can go shopping. have exersize ,it's IMO a cocktail for tragedy just because there isn't the will to nail peoples feet to the floor.
BBC News headline on my other window is 'UK in lockdown as strict curbs on life brought in'. We are not in lockdown.

Why isn't the will there? Incompetent or calculating? I am cynical enough to think calculating but I don't get why a government would deliberately try and lose more lives.

I don't get it.

Just going to get on with my day now. I can't alter anything so I'll just concentrate on those things I can do.

They haven’t mate, there’s now extremely vulnerable and vulnerable. The 1.5 million are the extreme.

No not really. A whole range of places got shut yesterday, explicitly. A list of them. Some may look for wriggle room, some sraff may challenge it, it will soon get sorted.
Others are allowed to operate. The big message is don't go out unless you really have to, dont socialise. and that will be what makes the big difference when the public start to really buy into it.
Well if BJ closes the loopholes during the day I will accept that but my suspicion is they were left open deliberately. Why? Mitigation of the virus.

All along he explains this stupid strategy of gradually pushing down on the virus with more and more pressure as the situation demands. It's a controlled process but its flawed. The sooner you go into total lockdown the better. Step by step is not so good as one giant leap. This is like BJ on the triple jump runway plodding along through the sandpit whilst Jonathan Edwards soars over it.

Walked to the local Coop this morning for milk and bread - came home empty handed. : (. Noticed white van man was there in force - no idea if their roles are essential but seriously doubt it.

Totally agree with this.

The work point has left me pretty angry actually.

I can only imagine this is unfolding that quickly that they can’t get the measures in place to pay companies right this second, if all work stops.

I genuinely think this is like a man drowning but the water continues to rise and rise and the more he struggles to do the right things the more it rises.

I don’t necessarily blame them for it, no PM has had this for 75 years.
Don't know but I wonder if this is the price that is paid when every step of the way has to be approved via HOC?
Great that a Gov is made accountable but would a Parliament that seemed hellbent on not agreeing on say Brexit matters really believe that a virus requires draconian measures say even a week ago?
HOC already needs to reschedule to allow massive bills to become law.

Just an opinion.

It's been tightened but they left open half the employment sector.

This tactic of gradually tightening of the valve tells me that they are still following their initial policy of a controlled infection.

If they had wanted to reduce transmission to the bare minimum they would have done so. This is not an oversight. We're still following the mitigation strategy, they've just tightened it somewhat. The death toll will end up higher than it otherwise would have been because of this. The public are ready for a lockdown. There is no excuse not to do it.
Good to see you supportive as ever and with, it appears, an insight into the government’s policy and decision making

There’s nothing in the instructions to stop white van man working is there?

We have a government that is very uncomfortable with all this... I don’t blame them but they need to be more decisive and more assertive. They are moving along reluctantly, slowly ramping this up. If they’d locked down last week when they ditched the crazy herd immunity strategy we could have avoided the worst maybe. Now we are heading for Italian level infections and whilst the hope is that our pandemic will be more regional spread than Italy’s I fear inside the M25 maybe be a blood bath with services completely overwhelmed. If just one person on those tube trains has the virus - how many will be infected by the end of the day... it’s madness.
