My wife is in the vulnerable category so we’re both staying at home, separate bedrooms and bathrooms, keeping 2m apart. Constant hand washing. Our daughter is dropping off food, leaving it outside. I deal with any deliveries, post etc. I’m keeping my distance from delivery staff removing packaging, binning it and then washing my hands.

If we do this for 2-3 weeks do I become “safe” as far as my wife is concerned? Can we go back to normal, bin the separate bedrooms and bathrooms?

Well as a pensioner the Government pays me gross but it is not tax free. It is used against allowances ie tax code and added to other possible income and any surplus is taxed.
That's what I am suggesting. Also the chancellor's announcement on support for the self-employed yesterday explicitly stated that their 80% was subject to tax. So you'd expect the same for employees.

I am guessing the plan for it to come through people's payroll as normal.

As you’re both staying inside, I don’t see how the separate bedrooms would help.

most mortgage lending has been canned
Gove has ordered all exchange of contracts to stop
Removal firms are closed.
Three firms of conveyancing solicitors went bust yesterday. Loads are furloughing staff

no one is going anywhere
Can you still remortgage, mine is due and I can tie in next week at the rate I wanted a few weeks ago

Why you always defending China? Fuck em the scruffy commie bastards. Hope the world boycotts them.
Cheap talk. Let's see you back that up with your willingness to pay 2x for your TV, phone, tablet, Alexa, trainers, washing machine, clothes, headphones... You get the idea.

People are unfortunately usually hypocrites. Happy to take the cheap goods and turn a blind eye to everything else. Most people won't even pay an extra 5p for a fair to farmers pint of milk.

You're only doing it now in case one of you already has it. 2 weeks should be enough to eliminate that risk (unless you give credence to possible longer incubation rates). Thereafter the only danger would be from stuff brought into the house including packaging. Some stuff may need to go in the fridge but most could just be put aside for 3 days for any virus to die. I'd use soapy water on a bit of paper towel to clean plastic packaging before it went in the fridge. Getting stuff out of packets without touching the contents isn't always easy!

It may depend how vulnerable your wife is - medical condition or just over 70? - in how careful you want to be.

Thanks. I don’t want to annoy you, but I’m not sure what good having anger with them will do for you as viruses have to start somewhere.

Sure, it’s probable that this has come from a wet market and they need shutting down ASAP, but if they hadn’t existed, the virus would have come along at some point.

We need to stay positive. We can beat this by isolating and buying time for scientists.

Wet markets is only one issue the main point here is that yet again after doing exactly the same thing in 2003 they could of prevented or significantly mitigated this happening if they hadn’t lied through their teeth!

I opened door with the intention of clapping with my fellow neighbours. However I quickly shut the door as many had their phones out videoing themselves clapping. Obviously congratulating themselves on social media for clapping our NHS is the motive for many rather than the actual reason behind the clapping at 8pm.

The 'I clapped more emotionally than you' competition has started.
I'm clapping you, I'll post it on fb later.

I'm not on Facebook so I'll not get the benefit. Can you post a clapping gif on here instead please.
I wouldn't know where to start, don't know how people manage to clap, whoop and film it at the same time.
Don't get me wrong, I admire the sentiment, but filming it and putting it on your social media stream seems a bit wanky, as if some people are doing it for the adulation of others.

Gutted. I was hoping to be converted. It seems to be very popular amongst folk.

I too admire the sentiment but sadly that sentiment looked as if it had been lost by many from my observations last night.

China have closed their borders. The fuck twats went ballistic when other assian countries did that to them.

If you guys get short of work, would you perhaps consider a new career in the diplomatic service?

:)
