I had thought a CPAP machine was a ventilator. Seems not, although I have no ideas what the difference is.

No worries. A few of us have home CPAP machines for sleep apppnia and were discussing on here(a few days ago)why they hadnt been recalled. Some doubted their effectiveness but the news story seems to cover the bases. Apparently 10 of thousands of CPAP machines are in general use in homes.

Not the first time I’ve heard this. Didn’t someone on this very forum say that was exactly their experience when returning to Britain n’all?

This government is far too wishy-washy and inconsistent. One minute saying one thing, then another, telling everyone to socially distance but having 30+ people in a room for press conferences and then all of the top people fighting this have all got it, no mass testing, complete lack of PPE in hospital, flights coming in with no quarantine...

It’s like a fucking joke!

Come the end of this I have no doubt we will be #2 in the world behind the USA for deaths and we will look like a bunch of morons.

Airlines are holding our cash to ransom, easyJet another airline to ground until June and remove refund button from booking site.
Ryanair ground til June. Still asking for my balance in full even though I’m going in may.
Government should announce solidly no flight til at least June if not longer and under law should automatically refund customers.
Clear guidelines and a cash injection back to many who are struggling.

Did you honestly expect any different? When have airlines ever behaved with anything other than with maximising profits being at the very core of their operational ethos - and fuck the paying customer. They take every chance to squeeze every last penny out of punters. It’s completely ingrained.

I've not been watching the press conferences every day but I've not heard the Gov't questioned on it once, let alone every day on why this situation continues.

Prof Neil Ferguson has said this morning the the rate of infection may be slowing, apparently new hospital admissions are slowing. Obviously this won’t be reflected in the number of deaths for a couple of weeks though.

Two friends returned from India a week ago ..... they reported exactly the same scenario at Manchester Airport. No questions at automatic passport control, straight through and into the city as usual.

Chinese government new about it last year early November time

No they didn't. They first informed the WHO of issues on December 31st. They have, in the meantime, traced a case going back to as early as November 17th but they had no idea of that at the time

So what is the way forward with this that prevents a complete economic collapse? This is what I think it looks like..

The current lockdown will be extended by say a further three weeks and this will reduce the spread of CV & allow the NHS to be in a better position to cope.

A combination of testing to see if someone has it and potentially a test to see if they have had it will be ramped up. This will enable more frontline NHS staff to work initially but in the medium term more people will will be able to work knowing they have had it.

Treatments that can reduce the severity of CV will be found and utilised.

At this point I think the lockdown will be sufficiently eased to allow businesses to reopen but people will still need to adopt social distancing as much as is practical. A reduced level of CV will still be present for months to come but that will be low enough to cope with.

The end game is when a mass produced vaccine is available maybe late this year / early next year.

I think we have to be cautious of spreading misinformation- as that can be harmful. Not pointing to those on here that have witnessed this - but twitter links without proof is something to be careful about that’s all.
