His rant about masks was all him,he has a real problem with the new york guy because he is pulling no punches,he is letting his personal feelings get in the way, states need to have a stock of ventilators because they can go from one to 10 or more in use in one day,he has no right to say they are asking for them and the PPE but they don't need them,he is not on the ground,he doesn't get what they need,he is non stop about money,he is obsessed with the economy and money, hence him repeating over and over that he wants everyone back to work and his easter church plan
he was a bit more serious last night, finally but he is still going ater any journo who asks him a question he doesn't like,he has the empathy of a brick wall

Oh yes, the implied theft of masks was utterly barmy. I can only imagine which Fox source that came from.

The ventilator thing I can at least see how he got led to it by people who realise that he's dumb, although it too is so batshitcrazy that no-one with a brain would think it likely.

I saw a comment somewhere that he got pinned down yesterday and had the riot act read to him before the more sober thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Fauci told him they would resign immediately if Trump continued the madness.

And yes, the treatment of journalists is astonishing. I wonder how close the serious journos are to reacting as the British ones did when the government tried to split them. He didn't like it when one gave his question back to the previous journo (the black woman who's a target of his).

I am genuinely scared of him being in charge at this moment,if i was an american i would be very nervous,it is incredible he is the president

Nobody does empathy like me.
My empathy levels are, perfect. The perfectest empathy you can get.

Everybody is saying, they all think so. All the experts are saying it.

Just the other day Dr. Fauci himself said I was The greatest Empathy Head, of our time.

Hmmm. Donald, are you sure that's what he said.

Tremendous, possibly the most tremendous that the world has ever

Why do you think so?
A combination of people generally tending to stick with the leadership they have in times of crisis, a greater exposure to voters than the challenger will have, certainly in the coming months anyway, a better grasp of how to misuse social media and spread false information than the challengers and certainly than Biden has, and a combination of the fact that his greatest opponents remain the same as before while his greatest support is (at present anyway) much more unaffected by this crisis than areas of the country inhabited by those who are against him anyway

I think it's a toss up. He relies on exposure, and he's getting a tonne. He also relies on his brand, which is associated with 'winning', and that might end up somewhat tarnished.

His greatest ally so far might be the people who love to hate him. Whenever shit looks like it's about to stick, he tends to throw out something that will get our backs up, but means nothing to the people he's targetting. Instead of column inches criticising him on the issues that hurt him, the reportage and social media content revolves around 'our' reactions, which usually mean absolutely nothing to anyone remotely interested in the Trump brand, indeed they serve to mark us out as people to ignore, people who are associated with being very rude towards and ignorant of the values his target demographic identify with.

Deaths and health, tho, plus the economy, are very universal topics. Also, being let down by the uncaring federal government. In terms of his persona, he's being asked to embody something very different than the smart mouthed tough guy.. it's hard to know how well it will be recieved.

He ought to be wide open to huge counter attacks. I think Biden might be ..uhhh... biden his time. It makes a certain amount of horse sense to lay low, let Trump's face and voice deliver the news and forever be associated with a period of chaos, uncertainty and unhappiness and so on.

Starmer would seem to be in a similair position. Neither guy's feet are under the desk, and whatever they do, the incumbent has the massive advantage of actually being able to deliver, which is what people want.. even if it's only superficial gestures, they are going to be valued more than criticism of someone who realistically can't do anything. Unless the Dems knocked it square out of the park, and actually DID find a way to deliver help to people. But that's a very, very high risk strategy.

I agree with everything youve said. Because we have different systems of govt, his tactic is very transparent and will probably work for him. State governorship will bear the brunt of the failings and he will point at that as being the problem to absolve himself.

Its all in the balance right now. If the election was tomorrow i think he would lose. It comes down to motivating voters and while his base may be fairly happy with him and therefore motivated to turn out as per last time the situation on the Dem side is different. Trump has been owning the libs since day 1 but that will kick back against him. The base level of motivation among Dems to go out and vote has been high since day 1 of his term and this crisis just rams it home to those that don't like Trump that they have to vote for the alternative to get rid of him. Biden is not the ideal opponent but he is a safe pair of hands and universally respected. In a way all he has to do is not mess up and offer the chance to voiters to inflict defeat on Trump - that is a big prize to offer.

Fingers crossed mate

Who's he going to point to? Cuomo? New York is going to Biden regardless. Islee or Newsom? They've been aggressive -- and their states are going to Biden too regardless. Is he going to start blaming Republican governors he supports who have ostriched this like DeSantis of Florida? How's that going to win him the state, turning on his allies?

I agree with you that he may TRY to do this but I can't see how that's a winning strategy.

Americans are going to want a head on a pike for this human and economic tragedy, and only one head applies (1) to all Americans AND (2) is up for re-election in 2020. It's him.

Agree with @Gaudion M that re: Dem motivation and likely turnout. The two ways I could see that not being enough would be Biden really screwing up (and he is trying very hard to stay very much on the fringes now, as he should) or a miracle health and economic recovery taking hold in September that Trump takes credit for. Possibilities of both but they are dwindling with each passing day.

Its well covered in this:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/apr/01/coronavirus-trump-bump-polls

'The real problems for Trump and his national savior act will begin when it becomes clear the administration’s failure to instigate a nationwide testing regime, coupled with its refusal to order effective lockdowns of virus hotspots and tardiness in delivering life-saving equipment, is increasing the likelihood of a protracted, rolling nightmare of sickness and misery through the summer and fall.'

If this drags, and to an extent that is what a lockdown strategy should do is minimise and drag it out, then Trump will struggle to maintain this I'm in charge message. A number of questions will emerge;

Did they get this right at the start?
Did they deliver on everything they could have?
Did they make the right calls at the right time? - This will be an ongoing issue as you have to trust the leadership around when to end these measures, Trump is under some pressure to end them already so he will come under some heat no doubt on this front.

You get the feeling there will be a mountain of evidence that he got it wrong when it comes to it during the campaign.

they've both got to make it to November first.

Watching CNN every day for an hour or so it is incredible to listen to the spin, sorry lies , falsification, misinterpretation spoken by many Republican politicians.

Stuff, you would have expected from Russia or China, not emitting from the land of the free. Total incompetence.
