COVID-19 — Coronavirus

A GP practice has apologised after sending a letter to patients with serious illnesses to complete a "do not resuscitate" form in case their conditions deteriorated due to coronavirus.

In the note, delivered to people with life-limiting illnesses, such as incurable cancer and motor neurone disease, Llynfi Surgery in Maesteg, South Wales, also said that completing the DNACPR (do not attempt CPR) form had "several benefits"

It claimed doctors and family and friends would know not to call 999 if a loved one's condition worsened, and therefore not use up "scarce ambulance resources", and risk transmitting COVID-19 to others

It said people with life-limiting illnesses were at much higher risk of the virus, and were "unlikely to be offered hospital admission", and "certainly will not be offered a ventilator bed".

It ended by saying: "We will not abandon you, but we need to be frank about what the next few months holds for us."

On Wednesday, Cwm Taf University Health Board said the letter was not a health board communication and that the surgery was apologising to patients for causing "distress", saying that was not their intent.

A spokesman for Cwm Taf said: "A letter was recently sent out from Llynfi Surgery to a small number of patients.

"Staff at the surgery are speaking to those patients who received the letter to apologise directly and answer any concerns they may have

The Ministry of Defence has contacted employers to tell them they are calling up 3,000 military reservists as part of the coronavirus response.

The group are those with specialist skills needed to help the effort and they will be expected to serve for six months as part of the COVID-19 support force.

No one already working for the NHS or front line services is included.

Those called up will be used to help provide medical and logistical support for the NHS.

Minister for the Armed Forces James Heappey said: "Our reservists are a truly remarkable group of people, each with their own skills and experience from their civilian careers beyond the armed forces

"At times like these, to be able to draw on that pool of talent and expertise is invaluable.

"I know that our reservists will answer the nation's call with real enthusiasm and will play a key part in our response to COVID-19.

2021 no way will they let the dippers not win this they’d cancel next season first and let this season run and run if they had to. If we were 25 points clear it would have been declared void weeks ago, scandalous

Panic flying...

Farmers trying to get their workers to come back from Romania and Bulgaria - even if we could recruit enough Brits to make up for the two-thirds of EU workers who will not be here, we've lost the people who've been trained.

Still, if you want to sign up, here's one leading grower who's recruiting for Feed our Nation (aka Pick for Victory). https://www.gs-fresh.com/

Just spoke to my mate who is an A+E doctor in the general hospital of Valencia. Still very busy, still over full and expecting two more weeks of this before any slowing down. It seems like even with full lock downs the cases just keep on coming for a long time. If he's right it will be 5 weeks after lock down before we see real improvement.
