A mate was reprimanded for leaving a supermarket with just cheese and crackers yesterday...

The thing is they are deliberately vague about what is "essential". If you consume a lot of champagne and caviar then you would probably consider buying more an essential replenishment of supplies. Until they forbid stores to sell certain lines then anything they sell is essential to somebody and its not up to some self appointed authority figure to say otherwise. If I were told cheese and crackers are none-essential I'd just ask where it says that.

As of 5pm Saturday another 621 people have died.

That's a drop but given the trends of recent weeks there'll probably be a huge rise tomorrow or Tuesday. Seem to recall last Sunday dropping as well, maybe they call the figures sooner.

I hope I'm wrong.

I have no interest in her fake comments.
Both her and her son were allowed to go to second homes whilst the common man was vilified for doing the exact same thing.
She has no understanding of how the population actually lives or struggles in these testing times.
I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be doing today. Am I shouting at footballers for being rich or doffing my cap to royalty? I must check the mail on Sunday and see what the instructions are for today.

If you have to go out to get essentials then what's the harm in buying a few non-essentials at the same time, especially in the same store?

Daily deaths in the UK hospitals yesterday were 576, a fall of 132. That's not just better news its fucking fantastic. Maybe a blip but still good news.
Also a sign that the higher UK statistics are starting to include non hospital deaths up front so there maybe not that many additional deaths to report in retrospect.

what about the rate of infection? Presumably if that keeps climbing and the death rate levels off and then falls that will mean that the work done in ICU and more staff and equipment coming on line imrpoves peoples chances of survival if they get it?
I don’t think we’ve hit capacity yet and therefore no one that needs an icu bed has yet been refused one.

The Shadow Health Secretary, Jonathan Ashworth, told the newspaper the deal is an “absolute outrage”.

He said: “Staff and patients will be disgusted at the billionaire owners of the ExCeL centre.

“They should be prepared to offer the facilities for free.”

Lola McEvoy, from the GMB, slammed the decision to pay rent for hiring the ExCeL.

She told the Sunday Times: “It is simply wrong that the government could funnel cash to crown princes to deal with an urgent public health crisis while the future of low-paid outsourced workers hangs in the balance.”

A source close to the NHS also told the paper the health service was

Statements from ExCeL London and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company regarding the NHS Nightingale Hospital

Jeremy Rees, Chief Executive, ExCeL London said:

“The use of ExCeL London for NHS Nightingale London has always been provided to the NHS rent free. We joined the national effort to combat coronavirus immediately and worked in close partnership with the NHS to ensure this hospital could be up and running in a matter of days.

“The initial agreement with the NHS included a contribution to some fixed costs. We have since decided to cover the fixed costs ourselves.

“The ExCeL London facility is fully available to the NHS, and we are here to support all their needs and requirements during this crisis.

“I’ve seen first-hand the fantastic work that NHS Nightingale London is doing to save lives and respond to the largest national emergency the UK has faced in a generation. It is a privilege to support the NHS and its wonderful staff working tirelessly night and day to protect people and save lives.”

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, MD and GCEO of Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) said:

“Protecting people and saving lives are of the utmost importance as we face this unprecedented global pandemic.

“We are doing all that we can to help the UK through these challenging times. To be clear, profit has always been the furthest thing from our minds. The venue was offered rent free from the initial conversation with the NHS, and ADNEC Group will ensure the ExCeL London partnership comes at no cost to the NHS.

“It is our firm commitment that we will not charge a penny for the use of our facilities, and we will provide the NHS with the operational and logistical support it needs for NHS Nightingale London.

“We stand in solidarity with Britain in facing this crisis together, as friends and partners.”
