Am I the greatest Stone Roses fan on the forum?

I really like the Stone Roses but they were just the warm up act for Oasis and not a patch on the Smiths.

I prefer The Stone Roses. Oasis never produced a better song than Fools Gold, I Am The Resurrection or I Wanna Be Adored. They’re better musicians too.

Live Forever
Don’t Look Back in Anger
Wonderwall

Are all better than anything the Stone Roses put out.

There’s an argument to say both debut albums are close, in terms of quality but when What’s the Story Morning Glory came out, Oasis blew them away.

Contrast it to the Second Coming and it’s arguing for the Word Cup over national league football.

I really like Second Coming. If any band aside from The Roses put it out then it’d be heralded as a classic.

Brown, Squire, Mani and Reni were more accomplished musicians than Oasis members. Oasis also released turgid crap after WTSMG? in successive releases.

Oasis were just rip off merchants in comparison. They made music for people who never usually bought it.

I Wanna Be Adored and I Am The Resurrection stand up to anything ever done imo but that's what it is - an opinion. To talk in absolutes is a bit daft, especially when the Roses were cut short of having true longevity and the chance to be generation defining.

Oasis are a magnificent band whose greatest hits would also stand up against anything ever created. It's just for me personally I prefer the sounds and melodies of Ian Brown with and without the band.

Don’t disagree and I’m not saying someone shouldn’t prefer the Stone Roses, it’s all opinion in music.

I would just add the only member of the SR getting in Oasis is Reni though, possibly Mani.

Squire is great but he’s not taking lead guitar off Noel and Liam is infinitely better as a front man than Brown.

Standing here.
Where angels play.
All across the sands.

Three roses tunes to match your 3 oasis tunes and all b sides, I love both bands with a passion but the roses mean more to me as they have been around since my teenage years.

And I'll raise you the roses first album against morning glory.

Three top songs you’re right but they’re not as good as Oasis’s best imo and the Masterplan is the best B side of all.

It’s your opinion though and music is memories.

From the age 14 onwards until about 17/18 I only listened to Oasis, genuinely. It’s all I played. I had a Liam Gallagher haircut and walked around like I thought I was well hard, in a City shirt of course.

I then got onto the Roses and Beatles due to their influence on Oasis and when I heard the Beatles, I realised nothing comes close to them.

The Roses first album stands up against Definitely Maybe and What’s the Story. It’s in the same league for sure but I still don’t think it’s quite as good as either.

None of it beats Revolver or the White Album though.

You’re just plain wrong here. Squire is ten times the guitarist Noel Gallagher is. He’s an appalling player for a professional and would be embarrassed to be told he’s better than one of the finest of his generation. Liam is an arrogant spoilt shit whilst Brown can work the crowd despite not being a great vocalist. I’ve watched audiences eat out of the palm of his hand.

The Stone Roses could quite easily have existed without Oasis. This can not be said the other way around.

For me their first album is near perfect and will forever have a place in my heart. Everything else they've done can fuck off.

They are by no means my favourite band but I certainly prefer them to Oasis and The Smiths.

‘She Bangs the Drums’ and ‘Waterfall’ are my favourite tracks of theirs.

In fairness, Second Coming was never going to top the debut. They had to do something completely different to stand a chance.

Squire is a better guitarist but Noel has more talent than the rest of both bands put together, his song writing gets him in and puts him in charge.

We’ll take them at their prime, only fair, Liam between 1994-1996 was the best front man in the world and had the best rock voice.

Ian Brown is worse than me at singing. Yeah he wrote great tunes and is cool but he’s not a good a front man or singer as Liam and he’s not close to Noel for song writing.

Your last line is spot on though. The Stone Roses did exist without Oasis as they weren’t nearly formed in 1989 and watching the Stone Roses inspired Liam to be a front man.

It wasn’t even close, when you compare Oasis’s second album is a frightening difference in quality.

To be fair oasis have a great back catalogue of b-sides too, most are better than most bands A sides.
I got into the roses in 89 when I was 15 and I still get the butterflies in my stomach when I listen to them today, no other band does that to me but john Lennons solo stuff runs it a close second.

Reni was going through a bad patch with his mrs,(a good few year ago)I had his kids,Marley and Cody at my gaff for a few days.
I sat watching football after dinner and the wife asked where they was,I walked in the dining room and they are sat at the table.
I asked them what they are doing...reply...."we haven't been excused from the table".
A pair of the nicest and well mannered kids I've ever met.

I am strongly connected from The Patrol days. The first album is great. I was at Spike Island and it wasn't.

Prob a better debut album than definitely maybe which is some compliment!! the roses will always be special to me, blackpool was epic, ally pally & spike island shockingly bad, ian brown is dreadfull live but its the feeling of the music that draws you in, heaton park was poor as well thought they were better at the etihad? oasis much better live band
