Well if they're able bodied, and aren't working, they should be "enlisted" to do so.
Do you think people who have been “enlisted” against their will would do a decent job?
The reality is that, ignoring the pandemic, unemployment is low and everyone who is willing to travel for work is already working. Job losses due to the pandemic might change that but it’s not going to be solved overnight.

In light of this pandemic it's time for a national social service.

Besides too many in the population need civilising. Perfect job to change their tune.

Good to know that the hysteria surrounding job losses due to brexit was without foundation, and also the danger of UK crops not being picked due to no EU labour is also not happening then.

Because it’s hard work. People in the UK who want to work in agriculture already do. The whole social construct of UK society is not conducive to attracting people brought up in towns and cities to want to do hard manual work in the fields.
Possibly. I lived for a while in Lincolnshire and the pubs during the day were full of locals on benefits whining about Poles etc 'coming over here and taking our jobs', but they seemed to not be in that much of a hurry to give up benefits to pick sprouts in a field all day in Winter.

We’ll see at the end of transition. Or rather we would have done had the economy not suffered the effects of the pandemic making the effects of Brexit difficult to separate out.

British people are some of the hardest working people in Europe. There are lots of people doing 12hour shifts (manual labour), fed up of hearing that lazy argument from some

I’d also so these jobs such ‘picking sprouts all day’ are impossible for most people. The wages are incredibly low and not feasible for people with families. If farmers actually want British people to do them maybe they could pay an actual wage or some of these other business’s could think about people rather then cheap labour and profit .....

I assume farming businesses are paying minimum wage, though they might be taking accomodation costs out, not sure, anyway they wouldn’t choose between paying more for labour and profit, it would be pay more for labour and charge more for the produce. Unless every farm does it it isn’t achievable. Either way I don’t think we have a bigger enough labour market that want to do it whatever the wage, don’t forget a lot of those needing work are in cities so would need to be accommodated in the farms.

Absolutely, but apparently these jobs in Norfolk are £15 an hour, plus private jet travel fro Romania!

You assume wrongly.

Official comment on why we are pressing on with end of year crash out.

"We need legislative and economic flexibility to manage the UK response to the pandemic."

So that's rescuing the economy by trashing H&S, working hours, sick leave, holiday entitlement....
