I'm a functioning alcoholic. I drink everyday. I still manage work because I'm good at what I do. If you've got on a plane with a trent ten strapped to the wing then there's parts in that engine I've signed off.
I gave up last year for six months. That was weird, nobody noticed.
Anyone else a useless alcoholic like me?

So long as your just signing off on jobs and not getting your hands oily by using a spanner it's all good until one falls off I suppose.

I sympathize mate.
But you must do rehab. You have to stop. I mean do you drive to from work ? What if you killed someone ?
Also your health.

Rehab is for someone who’s never gone there, you’ve got to want it end of story
Not really, my mate went 3 times, succeeded 3rd time, never drank since. It was salvation army run place. Completely free. He got his own room. Meals everything.

I went to AA about five years ago. Fuck me it was grim. I never thought I was as bad as them. I now realise I'm. Not far away

I just hated people telling me what was right and wrong, was drinking 2litres of gin a day ended up in a coma not a great place to be, but it’s all on me, no one else

Fucking hell hinchy. How are you now mate? You controlling it? I was doing a litre of vodka plus lager. Hope you're OK mate

For the life of me can’t find the appeal at home.

If my mates come round (obviously not at the moment) then yeah but that’s about it.
So you wouldn’t see the appeal in you and your partner (if you have one) having a few at home whilst listening to some music etc?

We’re currently getting pissed at home. I’ve just finished for 12 days. Should’ve been going to Albufeira tomorrow.

I used to only drink Friday and Saturday with the odd Thursday thrown in. Having kids (somewhat paradoxically) changed everything. Once they're in bed, I always crack open the bevvy (often before they've gone to bed actually). I love 2/3 cans then a half a bottle of vino. I exercise every day but know my alcohol intake isn't healthy and would love to curtail. I've stopped the booze previously, so I know I can do it, but I genuinely enjoy a drink; I have never missed a day of work in the last twenty years because of drink, so am happy to carry on (I think!). My greatest concern is my children seeing me drink and they see it as "the norm". My mum and dad rarely drank in the week, but, they smoked and they also fought bitterly every weekend, without fail about my dad's commitment to his job so I'm not sure one begets the other so to speak. Do I drink too much? Certainly. Do I enjoy a drink? Certainly. Do I want to drink less? Certainly. Do I want to drink more? Certainly.

I wish I shared this opinion. I'd love to stop I really would. It's all or nothing for me.
Best advice is just walk away from real life for a bit, turn your phone off think about what’s important to you, pm me if you want, I’ve been there and got the tee shirt to prove it, the downward spiral into depression gets you first then complete organ failure, it does make you think

I probably could, but I couldn’t tell you.
