The membership of the UK government's scientific advisory group guiding coronavirus policy has been revealed after a list was published online.

Having previously refused to release the names of those on the scientific advisory group for emergencies (SAGE), the government has done so after weeks of pressure over a lack of transparency around their meetings and recommendations.
Two members of the group have not given permission for their names to be revealed.

There are loads and the public will be none the wiser as to who they are and whether the balance of input is good or not, stupid push by the media for no good reason

The “alternative Sage [Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies]” meeting organised by Sir David King, is live;

I've dropped in on it from You tube from time to time and some of the stuff is really interesting, though many of the speakers have astonishingly good retrospectoscopes that deliver 20-20 perfect hindsight.
One of the main points so far is that you can't open up public transport without masks (to allow people to be within 2 metres of each other) and unbelievable quantities of hand sanitizer on tap everywhere.

Would be interesting to hear the minutes.

yes, hindsight is 2020, like the year. A joke in there somewhere.

An interesting point made near the beginning examining the key strategic points behind WHO advice and UKGOV actions, where it was claimed that UK Gov is still looking to manage a spread, albeit in a very very slow way, compared to WHO suppression

Suppression does not give herd immunity without a vaccine - and that would be a minimum of 9 months away for some and up to 18 months (maybe 2 years away) for most.
And a crashed economy will probably double the deaths from COVID-19, maybe treble them.

I'm not sure releasing the names is a good idea. I can see lots of death threats coming their way from many nutters out there in the UK.

Herd immunity was the big mistake we made, everything else followed, there needs to be a investigation as to why we thought we knew better than everyone else

i would tend to agree. I think the immunity argument is still very difficult to evidence, but in theory i lean toward this.

Exactly why they shouldn't have done it,the media never think of anyone safety, they are not some shady organisation that needed outing, now the pressure on has doubled, I hate the UK media

Herd immunity is NOT a big mistake, it is the end goal. How you get there without crashing the economy is the big issue. A vaccine would be great but that isnt going to happen quickly.

My local GP has a test lab on site. They draw quite a lot of blood in 5 separate vials. Takes about 30 minutes to get results. List is 3 pages long. It's the same machine that the University Hospital lab use and as I had the same tests there a week after the first at my GP I can confirm it's as accurate as all the results were the same.

Of course this gets into the who private health care debate which is for another time.
This is the sad truth, in the UK you have to demand a full blood count, in France it’s done automatically, results like you say in 30 minutes.

We had a stark realisation of the difference when our dog was taken I’ll in France. The vet asked us to go and have a coffee and come back. Sheets of information available, ecchograph done, diagnosis presented.

Not the time for the discussion certainly but the flaws are obvious.

We don't know the members could have agreed to letting their names be released. (Though I doubt it - More likely a beauracratic fuck up.)

Do is see some levelling of the otherwise linear decline?

Sorry mate - i am being so thick with this. I look at it every day but cant work it out - can you please explain.

Time will tell, unless we get somewhere near herd immunity we are locked down until a vaccine is available which can't happen. I don't understand how people think that when we come out of lockdown, whether it's this week or 6 weeks that the to number of infections won't just go back up.

Interesting counter view there which would suggest an enquiry will be needed as to why America didn't follow herd immunity.

We don't know at the moment but for sure questions will be asked one way or another.
