COVID-19 — Coronavirus

just picked it up from a guardian report earlier so probably wrong - either way it’s just all grim seen the US have just gone above 70k -

The Office for National Statistics said 29,648 deaths were registered in England and Wales with Covid-19 mentioned on the death certificates by 2 May .

With the addition of deaths in Scotland and Northern Ireland, this takes the UK’s death toll to 32,313, according to calculations by Reuters.
The daily stats for 2 May were 28,131 and the ONS data you’ve quoted will be a more accurate figure, so if you apply that to today’s daily stats this would bring it up to about 33,500.

Grim whichever way you look at it.

Problem being there isn't a one size fits when it comes to numbers.
Take a look at Nick Stripe (@NickStripe_ONS): https://twitter.com/NickStripe_ONS?s=09
I agree that numbers may be being collated differently or missed.
But going of the figures provided by the three countries mentioned Spain's curve was the steepest and they seemed to be heading for catastrophe.
Now you might say they are being economical with the truth.

But given the last few years in the UK I wouldn't be pointing the finger at anyone else on that score.

Tbf I’m not sure how much they could have done about this one..

what ? the bloke advising the govt on what rules we should follow breaks the rules he advised to shag a married woman. Whether or not the govt could do anything about it is not really the issue, they will get slammed.

no wonder Hancock lost his cool in the House of Commons today he must have known.

Not sure they will, i can see him being made into a scapegoat after this has finished.

I'm not pointing the finger at anyone. I'm pointing out the inconsistency in data collation, between nations.

I remember the days when domalino thought he was being a smart arse by quoting Ferguson at the time I was saying we’d be lucky to keep the deaths below 20k, he blindly thinking we had a chance of keeping it to around 5k.

As said, we are probably better off without him.
This is the guy who predicted 200,000 deaths one day and 20,000 the next. I know there are a lot of assumptions in play but bloody hell.

Ferguson says this

"I acted in the belief that I was immune, having tested positive for coronavirus and completely isolated myself for almost two weeks after developing symptoms

Not a single person in the world is saying to a patient you are immune and can go out shagging

Less than a fortnight ago, he warned life "cannot go completely back to normal" and that social distancing would need to remain until a vaccine was developed

Domalino’s not that bad!
And I didn’t know he’d gone.

So one of the people pushing the lockdown on the plebs, (ikely leading to at best dramatic reductions in wages and job security and at worst a depression that could affect the country for two decades), clearly thinks it's not needed or he wouldn't have visited his friends if it was?

Someone wasn't sure if all four home countries were counted

The ONS has said 29,710 deaths involving COVID-19 were registered in England and Wales up to 2 May.

Together with the latest equivalent numbers for Scotland (2,272 deaths registered up to 26 April) and Northern Ireland (393 deaths registered up to 29 April), it means a total of 32,375 deaths involving COVID-19 have now been registered across the UK

The anti-lockdown brigade will lap this up. Elon Musk has already started.

He has let the cat out of the bag, the lockdown is a farce .
