COVID-19 — Coronavirus

So, presuming this second peak arrives, which seems very likely let's be honest... how many daily deaths do we think it'll take until they lockdown again? Or will they just not bother?

I don't see us locking down again unless the NHS is overrun.

Infection rate on the rise again in Germany.

It's all fucked up, the initial signs seem to indicate that any let up in lock-down measure will see an increase in the R number. I really am starting to realise that the only solution is a vaccine and that may take months to come through.

We are going to be in this for the long haul.

"stay alert, control the virus, save lives"

That makes the UK strategy explicit. The UK is not seeking to totally suppress the virus. The discussion as to the best strategy will continue but if nothing else there is now no ambiguity as to the road which the UK has taken.
This is a slogan message to the public,it needs to be an instruction or something that hits a nerve like protect the nhs and save lives, control the virus is so meh, people are saying how do we control the virus

We had some bad news yesterday morning that the brother in law passed away in Leighton Hospital,Crewe. He had been in for nearly two weeks with terrible back pain, which eventually was found to be two ulcers pressing on his vertebrae.
We thought because of the nature of his rapid demise that it could have been cancer.
My wife spoke to her sister within the last hour and he passed away with this shit virus, which he contacted from somewhere in the 5 different wards he had been in.
She was allowed to go and visit him, fully gowned, with all the PPE.Our nephew phoned the hospital late last night and was told NOT to contact his Mum for 14 days as she was now under the self isolation system. He was devastated at the thought of not being able to give his Mum a hug,nor visit her at this terrible time. They also have another son and likewise the same situation for him.
We`ve already planned that Rex will be buried with just the immediate family being present and when hopefully all returns to normal (yes I know it never might) we will get together as one big family and give him the send off he deserves.
RIP Rex you really were a great bloke.
Shit news Oakie. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

The government's guidance is now:

  • Stay at home as much as possible
  • Work at home if you can
  • Limit contact with other people
  • Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
  • Wash your hands regularly
  • If you or anyone in your household has symptoms, you all need to self-isolate
The prime minister unveiled the changes in a post on his official Twitter account - where he has removed the "stay at home" slogan from his handle.

Junior doctor Julia Simons tweeted: "Please can someone tell Boris coronavirus is not a physical assailant? You can't stay alert to single-stranded RNA

Incidently, I see the Devolved governments have rejected the new slogan. Probably because they couldn't leak it first
Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she will refuse to switch immediately to the new slogan, with many questioning the notion that people should be alert for a virus which is, by its nature, invisible

She said she had first learned of the "the PM's new slogan" in newspaper reports and that she would not be switching her messaging "given the critical point we are at

She has a point

73% of Scotland's care homes have Covid-19 cases. Yes, she's played a blinder.
If you're not alert you can easily catch it. As I wasn't when I went to the doctors surgery for ACL physiotherapy

The number of recorded coronavirus fatalities has risen by 205 in the past 24 hours, taking the hospital death toll to 26,550.

Figures show that 178 people died in England, 12 died in Wales, 10 people died in Scotland and Northern Ireland recorded 5 deaths in its hospitals

Or probably because they're doing their best to protect people and not the pockets of the cash rich, hence why listening to scientific advice is probably a good basis for their decision modelling.

What does alert, control the virus mean? It is a vague notion that is not clear instruction, this is a real dangerous point,it needs to be clear

We have been told the four counties are working together, clearly not

It was nothing to do with care homes the point I was making

Downing Street has sought to explain the meaning of the new “stay alert” and “control the virus” messages being introduced by Boris Johnson.

A No 10 spokesman said the public can stay alert by “staying at home as much as possible”, “limiting contact with other people” and keeping two metres apart where possible.

“We can control the virus by keeping the rate of infection (R) and the number of infections down,” the spokesman said.

“This is how we can continue to save lives and livelihoods as we start to recover from coronavirus. “Everyone has a role to play in keeping the rate of infection (R) down by staying alert and following the rules

Stay alert means staying at home, just say stay at home then ffs

That graph is starting to look a bit like "Saddleback" as folks in Penrith call Blencathra the mountain to the north of the A66. Only the bit at the front is wrong. It's probably spot on with one of the rolling average graphs.

I read as no charge and that’s what I staying with, not that I’m up to going out anyway

there never was one, tbh. Even a so-called lockdown was half-arsed and introduced mainly because of public pressure.

And given that no country can lock down for the next 12 months then at some points we’ll have to open back up again. Protect the vulnerable and do all we can as individuals through social distancing to reduce the spread.
