COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Plenty for sale on amazon,i think it is more that it gives you a false sense of security as they are not medical grade but joe public thinks they are, covid can get through anything but the proper ones, they are not fitted and people fiddle with them so touching their faces many more times than they usually would,on and off for food and drink, the hospital staff don't do that, then there is washing and drying them properly, also for me it is then in some people's minds that the hand washing and keeping your distance is not so necessary

On balance i think masks were not needed, now boris has said it will help with confidence, that is why the advice has been changed imo

Yes there is all that its just they help stop people spreading it as much and should be more effective than grabbing a tissue.

Yet here we both are posting in this thread :)
Threads are grand, I skim read and discard most. Articles and constant seeking of knowledge about this is a dangerous thing. I had to go against my nature to stop as I usually devour information. I was trying to understand the numbers and nature of the virus. I stopped when I realised I was becoming numb to the number of deaths.

Try it mate, for 2 or 3 days. It's fairly freeing

I’m assuming you mean the PCR tests here, but the discrepancies between number of tests carried out and number of people tested in the figures released each day implies they are not - although I wonder if that is an issue with the accuracy of the test itself, or difficulties in being able to collect sufficient/adequate samples from those being tested?
Having had the test i can tell you it goes very high up your nose and very far down your throat ,i just can't see people doing that to themselves at home so I doubt the home tests are accurate

Not the best news if true although would be similar to what Vallance said about us the other day.

Up to date article on the potential effects of survivors medium term health on cv19 and very interesting analysis of monitoring that happened during the subsequent years to the initial 2003 SARS survivors, not very positive follow up data on those who survived unfortunately :-(

Also think this section needs highlighting for future consideration on policy seeing as we are always behind the curve on the science.

There is some hope: Early intervention could play a role in longer-term outcomes of coronavirus patients, said Ivan Hung, a professor of medicine at the University of Hong Kong. Hung said in April that 90% of about 200 discharged patients he oversaw at a clinic at one of the city’s hospitals appear to be making a full recovery a month out.

He attributed the success to Hong Kong’s “early diagnosis and early treatment” of patients, which leaves the virus with less time to wreak havoc on the body.

Jees. Depressing couple of articles to come home from work to. Like @twosips I'm not someone who can stop reading stuff like this to protect mental health. When stuff like this gets released I find it better to know, as devastating as it is. So in that sense appreciate it being posted despite them not making for good reading at all.

You are right. We travelled to Knutsford for our test. We assumed they would do the swabbing.
Yet they just passed/dropped the kits into the car for us to do it.
The throat test was murder. We both had the tickly throat symptoms, so gagged at the slightest touch.
How much material we got is anybody's guess, but i doubt we did it right. The nose part was easier, so we give that a good go!
The test(s) came back negative.

I broke no rules. You’re also making assumptions that you don’t have complete knowledge about.

I never claimed you did, just highlighting issues with a 'Common Sense' approach.

To be fair I could only go off what you posted as you provided no context. This highlights another issue with the approach as what on the face of it appears lacking in common sense, circumstances might warrant the decisions made.

Again this wasn't meant as a slight, people might agree/disagree with you/me and that is the issue that surrounds 'common sense'.

Glad they came back negative ,i do think we are putting too much faith in home tests to be honest,it is not easy to push the swabs further than you want them to go on yourself

Fair enough, but it was all the rage a month ago, but now seems to be barely mentioned at all.

We need this to see who has or hasn't had it amongst the 64m people not so far tested, it should be a priority.
I think the Oxford one will deliver bulk testing in June.

Looks like we're going to have a 4 week heat wave, maybe 8 weeks. Good news for putting the current Coronavirus epidemic wave to bed.
In every scenario modeled, they found that warm weather did not halt transmission. That was because, in the case of the common cold, a large segment of the population typically gets sick and develops immunity by spring. With SARS-CoV-2, however, enough of the population will likely remain vulnerable, allowing it to spread even if transmission is reduced in warmer months

If a vaccine isnt available by early next year, then personally, I think we may need to requisition holiday camps and isolate the young and healthy there and deliberately infect them. Volumteers only of course and no obvious underlying health conditions.

The likelihood of that ever happening though. Can you imagine the outrage? No chance.
