Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

0.8% of players / staff tested positive which is a lot higher than the general population yet whilst we are mainly stuck indoors seeing businesses crumble football is allowed to continue when the risk of contracting the virus is so much greater. Madness.
I made the same point a couple of hours ago.
If that's the full test results in 6/746, it's an interesting stat (0.80%) because it's more than 3 times (0.28%) the one released last week from the community testing that was done, showing active cases in the population.

Yes he won't be back with than attitude like that!

Hypocritical of him anyway when he was trousering £50k a week from the industry for years.

The players can’t have it all ways. They either collectively agree pay cuts which it seems many are loathe to do or they do what they are told.

I personally think it should be called off but I can see why clubs are trying to get it started to protect revenue streams. The players not budging much on pay, if at all, certainly can’t be helping the decision making.

I also think all clubs should agree a no transfers policy this summer too and just promote from within.

There will be 800 plus people tested in this first round, with the wealth involved it's safe to assume all 800 were asymptotic or they would have been tested already. Given that these people weren't deemed essential workers and should have been social distancing anyway then the number of positive tests probably gives a more accurate reflection of the real numbers than figure released by the government.

I've been paying very little attention to football since all this started. Can someone fill me in on what the plan is if players start testing positive for the virus (if there even if a plan)?

Telegraph reporting that the PL is on the hook to the TV rights holders for an additional 36 mill each week the season is delayed beyond July 16th. This is in addition to the 330 mill they owe even if the season is completed.
all because some dickhead solicitor forgot to put the words 'force majeure' in the contract, probably that highly paid he was dreaming of his money rather than his job

ideal time to bring in a wage cap and a draft system.

You can’t run a society without “bigger picture bollocks”. I presume you are happy to let your children fly, or play sport or cross the road. Everything has an inherent risk. Yet groupthink nonsense ideology has people focussing only on one statistically tiny risk.

Obviously this back and forth isn`t going to change your mind or mine.

Football is making itself look like the biggest **** on the planet.

Hope you displayed the same outrage when UFC held its first behind closed doors event or golf holding a match this weekend? By the time they play it will be completely safe it's just another trade restarting. Hope it goes ahead personally and good luck to any other businesses that can start to operate again.

Except that these people are all in the closeted away group that shouldn't be exposed. In the general population with a higher percentage of essential workers it would probably be higher still

That’s bollocks from the Telegraph. Absolutely nobody could enforce that in the current situation.

I’m unsure why the Media keep touting that the broadcasters hold all the cards. It’s actually the PL who hold them, without the PL the likes of Sky go bust.

Why have the names/clubs of the affected players been leaked, I thought it was supposed to be anonymous?

Are clubs rallying themselves?

10 false readings for every 800 tests according to the company doing the premier league testing.

False positives are a problem, but false negatives could be a huge issue.

Totally agree , if Sky/BT dont like the situation tough , there are plenty of others who would step in Amazon & Netflix are just two of them , if Sky cannot come to an agreement over the next couple of years to sort out any short fall , then take it to court , it isnt the fault of the Premeir league that the season could not be completed , a force of nature or whatever you want call it is the cause. F*ck Sky off watch them go bust and do a deal with Amazon.

That was my point, these people with football fields for back gardens and spouse's that almost certainly don't have to work are coming in higher than the stated national average. If 0.8% of those have it then it's anyone's guess what percentage of Joe public have it.
