How long did they think POC were just going to accept getting killed by the police? And it's not just getting killed, it's constantly being harassed. You can't go on social media without seeing a black person being treated like shit by police. We need a leader who will sit down w/ black leaders and the police and work with them. Heavily armed white men can march on state houses and shut down governments because they want a haircut and they're praised. People protest the constant murder of black people by the police and they get gassed and beaten.
Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the National Anthem and he was labeled a "son of a bitch" then was blackballed. The NFL instituted new rules that punished players for their peaceful protests. I'd like somebody to explain what POC can do. If they kneel they're vilified and if they march they're gassed and labeled as thugs.
As for the looting I think it's pathetic. It's also not only POC who are doing it, there are plenty of white people as well. There is also plenty of footage showing white people smashing windows during these protests. I also have to wonder if economic inequality doesn't have a lot to do with this. I would never dream of destroying property and starting a riot so I could steal stuff. The thing is that I can afford to buy the things I need. I'd guess many of these people can't. I saw video of one person stealing dog food, that's not something with a high street value. Nobody parties with dog food.
I'm just lost right now and I don't know what to do. There is a protest today that is just going to be people driving their cars throughout the city. I want to stand with Black Lives Matter because it's time decent white people do their part. On the other hand I could end up in a very dangerous situation. The police will be armed and tensions are far too high.
I'm also supposed to see some family at a socially distant cookout. We're all supposed to bring our own food and set up tables and chairs around the yard. The problem is that I have brothers and a father who are all in when it comes to gun toting racists terrorizing people but believe that black folks need to shut up because they bring it on themselves. The chance of me letting even one "America first" comment go is 0.0%. I'll tell them to fuck off and be in my car before I even crack open a beer.
