THIS IS WHY

From the official data site (which still shows todays deaths as 111)

QUOTE

A further change to the reporting process was introduced on 1 June 2020 and affected data from 24 May onwards. Deaths linked to cases identified through 'pillar 2' testing (see 'Total and daily UK cases' section on this page) are included as well as 'pillar 1' cases. All deaths before 24 May 2020 of people who tested positive through 'pillar 2' testing are included in the reported daily figure for 24 May 2020.

This change resulted in an additional 445 deaths being included (as at 1 June 2020).

Just glad it’s not 556 in 1 day. That would have been a huge step backwards.

And despite these "idiots" we still have managed to get it under control. I was taking my own precautions in mid Feb, because I read the stories about how serious it was, and avoided the places where I'd be more likely to get infected (Wembley apart, but even there we were careful).

I think the biggest problem we had as a country was that it got a very foothold here before we really knew about it, because of the half term holiday at the end of Feb, with people holidaying in the Alps and Spain just as it was spiking there, and bringing it back unbeknown, and in places like London is was spreading rampantly within a week.

Yes the league cup final on March 1st was my last big public event and travelling home the next day was the last time I used public transport. Aside from shopping and going for a walk that's been it. Yesterday for the first time in months myself, my sister, her husband and my mum and dad all met in my sisters garden for a chat and a few drinks. It was wonderful and when you have been denied this contact for so long you realise how important it is.

Most people that I know and associate with are doing exactly the same now as they were mid March, in fact they are probably being even more careful now than then.

Those I see that are flouting the guidelines, and undoubtedly some are, I don't associate with, and having seen their actions its even less likely I ever will.

At the end of the day, I can't completely cut out my chance of catching it, but I can do my very best, so I will. I look forward one day to be being able to go out with multiple antibacterial wipes, and crossing the road to avoid others, but until I'm sure I'll stay paranoid, hopefully preventing me, and my friends/family for becoming infected.

To quote the following...

No it isn't, and I don't need a politician telling me to stay safe.

And that’s fine, it’s ultimately not for you then. The sooner that everyone complies though, the sooner it can return to normal and it won’t just be down to common sense that allows that to happen. It will be down to laws and lockdowns as well, as we’ve already seen.

Thanks.

Agreed but still very sneaky. Does not inspire confidence that they slip through 445 extra deaths by stealth.

Confirmed.
Matty slipped through an additional 445 deaths without mentioning the war as an adjustment to previous under reporting.
Apparently it's in the Annex to statistical notes of the DHSC.

My point was, and still is, that the sensible people will continue to be sensible, the idiots idiots, and I'm not sure any amount of laws will prevent that, so it ultimately has to be up to the individual.

The web site with all the data explains in a footnote to the graph.

They added them onto last week's figures apparently. So lots of 400 + deaths per day. And a graph that looks to have flatlined.

Gelson will need a new graph!

Hard not to think they did this to sell their message today rather than be transparent. Will they ever learn that the public trust openness not trying to be deceptive?

They go back to 26 April.

Yes but last weeks figures in the graph arehigher than they were because and the graph is almost now showing an upward trend. That would have killed the message of the conference that all was under control and falling fast.

They clearly waited to add on over a weekend so the low figure we always get on a Monday distracted.

But doing this in the way they have is just being idiotic as the media will call it out.

Laws do prevent it though, as does consistency in messaging. There are people that will react the moment they believe the leniency is there to do so, or the risk is reduced.

It is always about having to play to the lowest common denominator, that’s how the government has to operate.

I take the point, I just think there’s more to it than individual accountability. It has to be given in the right way.

Ah inclusion of more excess Covid related deaths in the proper figures.
Pillar 2 is commercial partner community testing so they are clearly catching up on deaths at home and in care homes that would have been additional excess deaths in the next ONS survey.

Big rise in cases in Iran.
Mosques opened two weeks ago and people ignoring social distancing on public transport and men not wearing face coverings.
A warning for the future.

Let's look at it another way, Hong Kong has one of the greatest population densities in the world coupled with a large number of travellers, particularly from China.

Hong Kong is no different to somewhere like New York yet New York has seen 23,000 die of Coronavirus, Hong Kong has seen 4...... In Hong Kong they don't worry about R because it's technically impossible to calculate as there are so few cases.

Another thing to note, Hong Kong never locked it's population down.

It doesn't make any sense whatsoever that purely wearing masks or anything else is the difference between 23,000 people dying compared to 4.

As I said, google it

all the questions your asking have been answered.

People queuing for hours to get into IKEA, just to get into a shop! We must shop whatever the cost, retail therapy buying stuff makes us whole.

"But Ikea was forced to shut car parks at some stores to help ease pressure.

In Warrington, people arrived at 05:40 to start queuing for the Ikea store to reopen at 09;00.

The company praised shoppers for their patience."
