COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Fair enough.

Idiots will infect other idiots easily, I'll do my best best to avoid idiots, sadly I can't guarantee I will, as there are things I have to do outside.

Thing is mate, it's not simply a case of avoiding the idiots. If it were, I reckon I could just about manage it. But it's avoiding the poor shopkeeper they've already passed it on to, or avoiding chatting to that dog walker you always meet - who just happens to be a close relative of one of the idiots and has passed it on to them. Their actions have massive repercussions for the rest of us, whether we go anywhere near those specifically involved or not.

Doubt the WHO would place restrictions on masks for the benefit of the NHS. My guess is that there are different understandings of the word mask. Advocates for one approach over another start clashing like Karen and BlueAnorak have on this thread so views become entrenched. Then once you've been on one course for a while it is hard to change tack/tact as you're not just conceding to a colleague or peer (and the loss of reputation or power that may represent) you also open yourself up to accusations that your poor decision led to unnecessary deaths.

Even now there will be people passionately arguing that wearing masks is going to give a false sense of security and you need special training to take them on and off to not negate the effectiveness of them. Educated and thoughtful people can be sincerely wrong

Christ almighty, anyone seen the images from Parliament Square on the news? Fucking ridiculous, there are once again umpteen thousands of people protesting, far too close to each other. It’s mental.

All this after the news we are getting that BAME people are adversly affected by this virus, it's madness.

More confusion about masks too and in particular should NHS wear them and anyone who goes to hospital, they seriously don't know their arse from their elbow.

WHO now recommending everyone wears masks. Why did it take so long?
Pure and simple: Western arrogance.
Most WHO resources were/are European and American and the western medical paradigm is that face masks are for personal protection NOT for protection of the overall population.
This paradigm ts totally reversed in the far east. Through hard experience of the Chinese new disease factory they know the mask prevents the wearer from infecting others.
This paradigm is do deeply ingrained that DHSC officials refused to believe that there is an alternative. Most still insist it is of minimal benefit because the wearer only benefits by 10% and only then if masks are put on and taken off properly. They totally ignore the 20% (bandana) to 55% (surgical mask) benefit from 80% of the population wearing them in confined spaces and stopping the spread to others.
Honestly it's like the French believing that the static defences of the Magiinot line would win the day in WW2.
It is totally ingrained in the establishment of the DHSC, PHE and NHS. This spills over into the BBC who still parrot the minimal advantage rubbish - and it is rubbish, total rubbish.
Here is an article from the Telegraph from 15th April after the US CDC changed track in response to scientific studies in the far east and in the US.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/face-masks-asking-coronavirus/
The arrogance of DHSC officials back then is incredible when swine flu was beginning. They clearly haven't changed much.

Perhaps the shortage of PPE was critical to the UK government not changing tack till we were ready to reverse lockdown. I kind of understand that but I believe this decision still delayed squashing new case numbers by 3 or 4 weeks and doubling deaths. We have waited too long.

A CASE STUDY
For a practical example of the difference face masks make in a western country consider the difference between Austria and Czechia. Czechia has a slightly larger population and population density, but both nations are similar in that they have one big City and lower populated regions:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_Czech_Republic
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Austria
Both Czechia and Austria had similar Coronavirus case levels and deaths in mid March. Then Czechia made face masks compulsory
Within 2 weeks cases were halved in Czechia compared with Austria.
Austria adopted the masks as per Czechia on 6th April and new cases fell 90% overnight.
https://www.sciencetimes.com/articl...us-cases-requiring-people-wear-face-masks.htm
Austria now has had double the cases and deaths of Czechia by waiting two weeks to implement a face mask policy. Incidently the drop of 90% is the result of lockdown + facemasks.

The evidence is OVERWHELMING it is not marginal.

Sadiq Khan has been pleading for months now for people to wear masks or face coverings, heard him on LBC stressing this point and how he’s been lobbying the government - yet he’ll get criticised constantly

Covidiots.
Half of them are wearing masks so I suppose that's something.

just spotted “picadilly gardens” trending on twitter.

Everyone working in hospital to wear them. Shame they didn’t consult with the NHS first.
The health beuracracy would have responded with the same old bollocks that they've been coming up with since 2004. This way they get 2 weeks to implement a solution.
They are so incompetent, I doubt they can even do that.

We heard today that my Brother In-Law Gary has tested positive for Covid-19 in an antibody test. He is a chef for Cheshire Police and was checked along with other site staff members..

We were with Gary at my other Sister In-Law's on Christmas day and she had a very nasty flu type bug. I was angry at the time because Sue has Lymphoma and should try and avoid exposure to these things.

We both came down with the same apparent bug along with Gary (and others who had been exposed on Christmas Day) at our son's wedding night on the 28th of December. Sue had it for a couple of weeks but I couldn't shake it for at least three weeks. I eventually went to the doctor who said it was viral and I needed no medication..

Gary was told that most of the people who have tested positive in the Covid antibody test confirmed that the last time they were ill was in December / January and the dose had been particularly nasty

It makes me wonder therefore if we've had it and finally shook it without medical help.
