It's weird reading this thread because there are some seriously legitimate points regarding the protests on the fronts of why they need to happen, specifically due to racism, police brutality, and police discrimination towards the black populace, obviously all centered in the US.
However, there are also some seriously legitimate points from people who are against these protests, extremely much so the ones with Covid fears.
The whole not dying of coronavirus is as important to some people as racial equality (equity?) is to some others. Given it's almost certain people who hold in regard one of these two things so seriously still understand the magnitude of the other, it seems a serious shame that this has descended into such a black and white debate, no pun intended.
This is my pie in the sky thinking, but I just wish there were some sort of compromise. All of those out there campaigning for justice and equal rights need to be heard and admired for being willing to fight for what they believe in. All of those who are doing everything they can to avoid a coronavirus outbreak need to be heard and respected too. If there could just be some communication then maybe we'd realise that most of us are on the same side here, just with different priorities. But knowing that we could somehow work together to come up with a way to get the respective messages across and not step on each others' toes. I'm sure there's a way for protests to still be safe on the viral front. I don't know how, but if we got our heads together we could do.
I don't know if it's the media's fault (people aren't blameless too), but it feels like either you care about racial inequality and not the coronavirus, or the coronavirus and not racial issues. At least that's how it looks to me, and it would to many others, even if the truth is obviously more complex. This all feels like one big genius deflection tactic.
