Nobody has said that.

"Just like the pandemic, we want to find a solution to stop it.

"At the same time, this is what all these protesters are doing. They are trying to find a solution and a way to stop the injustice they are seeing and they are fighting for their cause.

"As long as they are doing it peacefully and safely and not hurting anybody and not breaking into any stores, they continue to protest in this peaceful way."

I'm not really sure what could be deemed as "awful" or "abnormal" about those comments.

If that is all he said then someone is playing a little mischief. If he said racism is the "only" disease as suggested then there could not be much worse he could have said. If he has been misquoted then fair enough.

He does however endorse the protest and that is very wrong indeed. !00s of lives if not more could be lost due to the actions of BLM, their supporters and hangers on. Let us hope that does not happen but its quite possible it will.

The cause is just, but the timing was wrong and what has happened this weekend will not doe them any favours. Should there be bad covid news a couple of weeks from now and we are back in lock down then there will be hell up.

Of course he has bud, and he will have to take the criticism for them.

If he does, I don’t think he’ll take it too personally. There are no fans to do it to him personally and he’s probably got used to people criticising him on Twitter, whether it be racial or not.

I hope he hasn’t washed his car and nips in to Greggs on his way back from training tomorrow.

He said it bud, clear as day he even hinted that what he was about to say was ridiculous, then he said that racism is the only disease we are fighting today. There was no explanation as such, no caveat, just that.

I don’t claim to have any significant knowledge.

My opinion, based on what I have read, is that this wasn’t race related.

It is an opinion. I may well be wrong when this has come through the wash.

I am merely offering my position based on what is known currently.

It doesn’t mean that I am right.

So none of us should jump to conclusions but you already did. And you don’t have any specialized knowledge or understanding of the issues at hand —no expertise — but formed an opinion you felt was important enough to broadcast.

Ok, well, that seems a bit unfair — I mean, to everyone else on the thread — but to each their own.

I don't think his comments tonight are particularly helpful, but he does have a right to comment in a free world.

It doesn’t mean he should, but as a black man who I am guessing has felt discriminated against in his life solely due to skin colo(u)r, his perspective is likely worth soliciting more than some others here who (on a variety of topics) seem to post because they can without ever bothering to consider whether or not they should.

Well, I guess by that standard we have all jumped to conclusions then, haven’t we? There are many on here who have offered opinion with little knowledge. Let’s be honest, non of us really know the motive yet. Until a thorough enquiry has been processed we are all speculating.

Cheers.

Being serious for a second, a professional footballer has given an interview. He’s given his view. He’s obviously had some media training, but he’s unlikely to be the sharpest tool in the box. He’s come cross well in the past, but that doesn’t mean he can’t make rhetorical errors. I’m sure he is worried about the pandemic that is ongoing.

He shouldn’t have used the phrase “the only disease”, but to dismiss the whole interview to focus on that faux pas somewhat boosts the BLM message.

It’s not a BLM exclusive matter. It’s been going on since the explosion of social media. Say anything that can be thrown back at you and that becomes the focus, rather than what the interview entailed.

That's all fine, but as is normal the media have decided to use his comments another way sadly.

Some of these "protesters" are using it to have a go at our own police, and that's just wrong (even though I have no doubt a small minority are racist), but he's basically backing that up with his comments.

I posted last night, how in the town I live in in the home counties, police (some black) were out in force protecting the people yesterday trying to enforce sensible social distancing, and they were confronted by people carrying placards saying "stop police brutality" in a place where I have never heard of any.

That’s pretty much my take on it too. And just because someone isn’t hugely articulate, it doesn't mean they aren’t intelligent and don’t have something worthwhile to say.

I'm really taking umbrage with anyone who breaks cover and endangers other people by helping to spread this shitty virus bud, we've gone past sanctimoniously clapping at doorsteps or putting nice fancy rainbows at the windows to what is total fuckwittery.

The furore surrounding the Cummins debacle and now this, it's just not on. I genuinely do understand the plight of black people in the USA but what I can't get my head around is that in this country they could be causing a second wave, that's what I find Raz guilty of IMO.

As far as I can tell from the article, he's not said those words. He might well have done but it would be odd that such a divisive statement wouldn't be included in there.

He does however endorse the protest and that is very wrong indeed. !

I just don't agree with this for the simple reason that there is a way of doing it responsibly.

If you're taking the necessary precautions to protect both yourself and those around you then I see absolutely no issue with it.

I can't believe Raheem would say that.

But, again, there are genuine protestors who are simply there to support a cause they and I believe in.

I posted a long comment about five hours ago going into a bit of detail on why institutional racism within the police is a serious issue in Britain. There is absolutely nothing wrong with protesting that or with Raheem's support for that cause, especially when he explicitly states that he supports peaceful protest and not violence or looting.
