George Floyd murder | Clashes between US police and protestors

I'm sure they did but the sight of missiles being thrown at the police & the fact that a female officer has been seriously injured has disgusted millions of people. Add to that the idiot trying to burn the flag at the Cenotaph and, like I say, any sympathy has largely evaporated.

I would suggest that if a few missiles, a police woman falling off her horse and someone trying to burn a flag is all it takes to wash away sympathy for murder then the sympathy was shallow to non existent to begin with.

The police officer has a collapsed lung, a broken collar bone and multiple broken ribs.

A bit of a scratch and who gives a shit anyway as far as the mob are concerned? Millions of people do give a shit, though, and not about the protests.

If the roles were reversed and you faced the injustices minorities face I'm sure you would be protesting too.

Outside of the usual left wing rent-a-mob I'd say any sympathy with the aims of the protests has largely disappeared.

They always confuse bodies on the street with popular support. Last year's anti Brexit matches being another prime example.
I'd say you're wrong.
Furthermore i'd say anyone who no longer has any 'sympathy' for the original aims of the protest because of a couple of isolated incidents in the UK probably didn't have that much 'sympathy' in the first place.

How much public sympathy do you reckon that daft **** got?
I never said he did but if you want to generalize a whole protest and dismiss reasons because of the actions of a small minority then I’d Imagine that’s ok for people to do likewise with you. So you’re a football fan - football fans are thug cunts - you’re a thug ****.

I do love these threads for no bringing out the inner truth of people.

Most definitely.

It's the "burn the West", "ACAB", "Britain is racist" "Socialism now!" narratives that seems to have distanced a lot of people from the core message of ending racism by authority figures.

"Churchill was a racist!" Yes, he could be, and we know this. What does that have to do with anything?

It's all 'but but but'. They are constantly looking for something to justify their position.

Do you think it’s entirely plausible to agree with the general premise of the protest and support the aims for true equality but disagree 15,000 people marching together in the middle of a pandemic and turning violent in other areas, is a suitable response in the UK?

So you accuse me of making a sweeping generalisation by making a sweeping generalisation?

Saw it online and was sceptical but spoke to a policeman who lives nearby this morning and he says it’s true.He also said a lot of officers are unhappy about it and were questioning how this might affect policing at other parades or protests.
At the footy they could carry the goals up to the front line and swing off the crossbars.
Kilts when policing the Highland games mob?
And for the biggest annual crowds in Edinburgh the riot squad could police it (one for @Magicpole here) through the medium of dance, and, or, mime.

If it wasn’t the pandemic or the kneeling or the statues or the protests or the looting it would be something else. It always is.

Not for me it wouldn’t.

I was appalled by what happened to George Floyd and believe the police in the US need to take a long hard look at the recruitment process and training. There’s something that stinks over there and they do need a lot of change, in a lot of areas.

I also can tell many black people here have grievances so support their right to challenge things and have spent the last week asking what exactly they want to see.

I saw the crowds in Piccadilly Gardens and my immediate thought was the lives at risk due to the total ignorance of the pandemic.

Fast forward to indiscriminate violence towards random police officers and vandalism (not the slave trader, don’t really care) and I’m sat thinking it’s not a reasonable response at all.

I can’t be the only one in this boat, in fact I know I’m not.
