He used the term disease on purpose, it's topical. After the shit Raz has had he's every right to be angry but on this one point he was wrong IMO. Just because I think what he said is stupid it doesn't mean I don't like him.

Completely agree.

Sports stars are obviously influential figures but they're not the brightest bunch so most of what they say normally ends up being total bollocks, even if it can be sometimes well meaning.

The worst offenders are normally boxers. Why anyone wants or expects thoughtful opinion from someone who gets paid to be punched in the head is beyond me. Anthony Joshua's comments being the latest.

Stopping this virus has been the main thing on peoples minds for months, and as you say there are sports stars making hay with the crisis. Racism is a shitty thing it's inciduous and it's divisive, but so is coughing your lungs up and taking your last breath.

I believe Austin police have refused to identify which officer fired the round.
Interesting, because in Texas, if someone is killed during the committing of another crime, all of those involved can be prosecuted for murder regardless of who actually killed the victim. Maybe they should apply the same rule to police and see how long they cover for each other.

Go on, Brother.

Whatchu got?
I've got nothing. Long time listener first time caller. Just joking about your controversial reputation. I hoped my overstatement of Joe Biden would indicate i was being stupid and subtly hint that i sympathised somewhat with your position. My post clearly didn't land as intended unless your post is calling my bluff in which case i look even more foolish.

If it's ok i will go back to blending in and stop trying to ride with the forum big kids. Ffs mahrez

Haha!

I did think it was you being facetious, but after a think I thought I'd better ask, in case!!

Should have listened to my first thoughts!

It’s not a system though, it’s individuals being racist, which I’m completely on board with changing but I keep seeing the system mentioned and I’m willing to accept ignorance and find out what it is exactly.

The thing with the police is, they use stop and search in areas of high knife crime and drugs, unfortunately that’s poor areas of London mostly, that are mostly black.

The knife epidemic was mostly in that community and something needed to be done to save black lives there.
The police, football and the media are institutions, add that to the day to day problems people have that is why they are doing what they are doing

I am no fan of the ref Sharpton but he said an interesting thing just now, every time he writes his name it is not his name,it was the name that was given to his great grandad when he was a slave, this shit runs deep

Yesterday Joshua today Sterling who's getting it tomorrow? The Windies are in town it's about time that Jason Holder gave his two pennies worth so all and sundry can deconstruct his words to find offence and deem his message 'unhelpful'.

That’s true and it’s why the Muslim Brotherhood in the States gave their members different names in the 60s and how Clay became Ali.

I get that but it’s a minority still in all three of those, less so the media. Something institutionalised is top to bottom and the top doing something to make it worse.

You could argue UEFA’s/FIFA’s pathetic attempts to stop racism but the majority involved in the game condemn their actions.

The system is laws and policies and I’m ignorant still to what’s racist in our system in the UK.

My hope is what’s gone on changes individual’s minds.

Haha when I posted I almost dropped you a PM just to clarify but then i decided not to patronise you and trust that you'd get it.

My take on the Sterling quote is that he meant what he said. He just didn't articulate it very well. I watched the full interview and what I think he was trying to say was that racism was at the forefront of everybody's mind rather than the coronavirus and the time to protest to get the message out had to be now regardless of the pandemic. He and the interviewer were talking about how the protests were being perceived and how the government had been condemning the large crowds. You could see him struggling with the wording of the statement and even admitting beforehand that what he was going to say was sounding a bit silly which imo is an admission that he didn't just have the right vocabularly to say what he meant. As has been said many times, sports stars (with the odd exception such as Vinnie) are not noted for their intelligence in the main.

Just been watching the CNN coverage of George Floyd's funeral. Extraordinary sight of the cortege dancing down the aisle ahead of the gold coffin and against an image of George flanked by Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.
