I don't agree, I think when a lot of these statues were created UK was an entirely different place full of white British people, it's not like that anymore, a huge percentage of the population of Britain are not British or black British, these statues were symbols to white people who were born in Britain many years ago, they are not relevant anymore.
I don't really see the point in statues to be honest, maybe the pigeons like them, I also don't believe in naming streets after people.

No problems with the protests at all, but pulling down statues is fucking pathetic, it's criminal damage and the shithouse police just stood by and let it happen. We're just giving in to the anarchists now, they have a free reign as the police can't or daren't go in heavy handed on them. I see major trouble ahead here this weekend from both the left and right nutjobs.
 
I think this statues thing it being slightly stretched out of proportion by some.

Only two statues have come down one by force and one by order of lord sainsburys.

Both these statues have long been asked to be removed by locals and when reading their history many have no issue with them gone.

The other statues in the conversation Rhodes, Peel, Picton are ones that have also had many calls and requests for removal from various cities.

So of the over 800 statues in this country a maybe less than 10 are targeted, so the hysterical response ofnext if will be lets knock down building and what about he romans/vikings etc is laughable.

Churchill won't go anywhere but he does get graffitied most demos or every so often so this was nowt new, gandhi was unexpected but then many now consider his time in africa as racist and also that he was a possible nonce.


I suppose we should be happy most of our stuff in Manchester s named after Whitworth and not Touchet

So where does it stop? Once the initial 10 are destroyed will they move on to the next lot? I am not supporting in any way what some people have done throughout history but if it was deemed ok at the time to put up a statue then so be it. You cannot go round deleting history because it offends you. Times change and we need to be reminded of history so we can learn from it.
 
Im all for eradicating monuments that cause offence and are associated with suffering, especially to minorities. Accordingly, can we please start demolishing churches.

They offend me greatly, and are responsible for many of history’s wrongs.

No one is deleting history or said delete history as has been said the statues that may be removed loke rhodes or peel will go into museums where nore context can be added than a placque with a fes word summary.

The colston statue, I am not from Bristol but reading up since have learnt alot about him and his history and aslo the frustrations of h

If someone said get rid of wellington, albert or vicky etc in town I would be opposed for different reasons, peel not arsed tbf and if cromwell was brought back from wythenshawe I would graffiti it myself as he was a ****.

We have a museum, a peoples history museum, a war museum, and many more so no statue removed need be lost to history.

What will piss people off though is that if people are just allowed to start pulling these statues down at will ,totally unopposed. If they're done by the council then fine, but if you've got morons deciding they're going to do it themselves that's when big problems will start. But with the spineless police on their side there's nothing to stop them doing it.

One statue was pulled down, one

As I said I think some are being slightly hysterical to suggest mobs will be pulling more down, and as was seen yesterday one was taken down by the land owner and rhodes will be removed by the council.

One OTT action has led to debate and actual action from councils over long dislikes monuments.

The older I get the more observational I become, finely tuning into my everyday surroundings. Not everyone possesses this ability so hands on heart how many saw the cryptorial message our beloved leader integrated into the forums name. Nothing short of inspirational brilliance and beyond the subtle in it's genetic nature.

It gives a but clause to the but brigade. 2020 and we have statues of slave masters - enough is enough!
 
Can someone explain this to me as I am struggling. Ndjodi Ndeunyema appears to be one of the organisers involved in the removal of the Rhodes statue in Oxford appearing on TV and giving press statements. About the protest earlier this week he said 'We are here to shame the college that seeks to venerate and glorify someone who is not worthy of glorification or veneration'. He is clearly a very bright person having completed three Oxford masters degrees. However he is studying at Oxford as a Rhodes scholar, that is to say he is happy to take money from the trust to enable him to be at Oxford. So it's ok to take the money from a trust set up by the very person you hate.
