Ignorance is no excuse. She wasn't complaining about raking in the money. People like her crave fame and then complain when they have to deal with the trappings that come with it
Reality Tv is the downfall of society

She didn't crave fame she was thrusted into it because of her personality, can barely remember other people from big brother and Jade has been dead 11 years.

Ignorance isn't an excuse which is why she went to India to understand how bad her comments were.

No idea why I am defending Jade Goody mind lmao.

I don't agree, I think when a lot of these statues were created UK was an entirely different place full of white British people, it's not like that anymore, a huge percentage of the population of Britain are not British or black British, these statues were symbols to white people who were born in Britain many years ago, they are not relevant anymore.
I don't really see the point in statues to be honest, maybe the pigeons like them, I also don't believe in naming streets after people.

Nearly 88% White. 7% Asian. 3% Black.

What about a statue of, say, Gandhi?

Or Nelson Mandela?

What about public/ private buildings? There are loads in Liverpool, Bristol etc etc paid for by money made on the back of slavery.

That statue was thrown in a dock that was re-developed and paid for by slave money.

Where do you stop?

Demand recompense from the North countries for their invasions in the 9th century? Same with the Normans? Or say sorry for our rampage through France in the 14 century?

We have a history in this country. A history that should not be airbrushed away. It should be read about, studied and learnt from. It should not be destroyed.

Four police officers turn up for a potential $20 crime. You can not get one to turn up in our country how ever hard you try.

I witnessed two Eastern Europeans shoplifting in my local Iceland last year and informed a manager who was also eyeing them up from near the entrance. I offered to help him tackle them but he said the company policy was non-intervention and just to inform the police. They filled their rucksack and just walked out of the store past me and the manager. A lady arrived who it transpired was a manager at the Co-Op some 200 yards away she had already informed the police as they had taken things from her store. I hung around for ten minutes or so as I had clocked which direction they had walked of in, not one policeman turned up in all that time.

That's what happens when there are 20,000 odd less Police on the streets despite an increase in population and demand, combined with an expanding job role into what would previously have been social work or NHS territory.

Because ?

Are you on about Naples?
Nope - his opposition to the movement for the abolition of slavery

Also, to satisfy my outrage, I would like to see the renaming of Canterbury, Colchester ad St Albans by the end of July and a list of other such places by the end of the year

I kind of have had to do that in a way, in a virtual sense. I love that these issues are getting global coverage, but it can get discouraging when you take a step and think, why do we have to debate and argue long into the night for days and weeks on end to try and convince people that ending racial inequality is not an unreasonable request? Why is opposing racism such a controversial and contentious issue?

Just to be clear, being a Chelsea fan is fair game though ;-) :-)

Exactly mate. The only way to learn from mistakes is to study history and try not to repeat the mistakes of the past

So when are the facists going to demand history books are burnt for not being racially correct? It's only a matter of time.
Fascism is fascism no matter where it comes from.

Or we could just ask for them to be at least correct about what happened in the past and our role in it. Our participation in the slave trade helped grow an Empire, the opium war with China, the occupation of India. Up until 1700, India and China were two of the richest countries in the world with over half of the worlds trade. We reduced that in 150 years to single figures with the wealth transferring to the UK.

Just be honest and there won’t be a problem.

History will have to begin in 1992 and all statues that aren't dedicated to reality or soap stars removed. Francis Drake, Raleigh, Nelson, Churchill, saves having history lessons when the kids eventually go back
Perhaps we will see a campaign to have Nelson removed from the column and replaced by a famous soap star?

No problems with the protests at all, but pulling down statues is fucking pathetic, it's criminal damage and the shithouse police just stood by and let it happen. We're just giving in to the anarchists now, they have a free reign as the police can't or daren't go in heavy handed on them. I see major trouble ahead here this weekend from both the left and right nutjobs.
Pulling down statues is bad enough but throwing it in the river is just downright littering. Hang ‘em all.
They should have done the right thing.
Taken their shoes off and slapped him with it like they did with Saddam Hussein.
Now there’s a message.

The older I get the more observational I become, finely tuning into my everyday surroundings. Not everyone possesses this ability so hands on heart how many saw the cryptorial message our beloved leader integrated into the forums name. Nothing short of inspirational brilliance and beyond the subtle in it's genetic nature.
Bacon Lettuce and Mayo?
I don’t get the fuss.

Fraught with difficulty this statue business:

https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/jade-goody-set-to-be-commemorated-with-statue-385189

but from Jade Goody Wiki....

Among Goody's remarks were, "I've seen how she goes in and out of people's arseholes" and Shetty "makes [her] skin crawl".[34][35] She also called Shetty "Shilpa Fuckawalla" and "Shilpa Poppadom". Other, unbroadcast incidents of racism were later alleged,[36] including a late-night limerick game between O'Meara, Lloyd, Goody and Tweed in which the word "Paki" was implied but not said.[37] Goody allegedly wondered aloud if Lloyd used "the P-word", and referred to Shetty as "Shilpa Pashwa whoever you fucking are".[36]

The incident triggered an international outcry, receiving extensive coverage in the Indian media (where Gordon Brown, then British Chancellor of the Exchequer, was visiting at the time). Brown condemned the programme for damaging the impression of Britain as a country of tolerance.[38] In a 17 January statement, Channel 4 defended the programme against charges "of overt racism or racial abuse".[39]

Goody was evicted from the Big Brother house on 19 January 2007, receiving 82 per cent of the vote when she was up against Shetty.[40] Channel 4 prevented crowds from gathering outside the house, and cancelled her scheduled press conference.[41] In an interview with Davina McCall shortly afterwards, Goody said she was "disgusted with [her]self" after seeing a video of the alleged bullying.[42] Her much-publicised return to the Big Brother house was called "a terrible decision" by publicist Max Clifford: "It looks like she has ruined a very lucrative career".[43] At this time Goody was a supporter of the anti-bullying charity Act Against Bullying, which dropped her.[44] In an interview with the Daily Star, Goody said that her abuse of Shetty ruined her girl-next-door image.

Although Shetty did not lodge an official complaint about racist behaviour with Big Brother, her allegations compelled police to investigate the possible classification of her treatment as "racial hatred" under Part III of the Public Order Act 1986. In a statement, the Hertfordshire police said that it was

... investigating allegations of racist behaviour in the Big Brother house and will be conducting enquiries, including a review of the tapes. We will continue to liaise with Ofcom and with Endemol, whom we have strongly encouraged to ensure that any form of behaviour that could raise similar concerns, does not occur. We will continue to closely monitor the situation over the next few days. Hertfordshire Constabulary will not tolerate racism in any form and is taking these allegations seriously. The constabulary has experience of investigating and resolving incidents in the Big Brother house in past seasons.[45]
Oh fuck - and she was going to be my nominee to replace Nelson on the column

You've spoilt that now

What about Katie Price? is she clean of dubious views?

Clearly Nelson's Column needs to come down
The bronze relief around the base that depicts his death has a young black man, George Ryan, on it.

Put on there to show that their were black men in the crew fighting against the French.

Commemorating.

Wilberforce campaigned to abolish slavery. Nelson opposed his views saying...

"whilst I have an arm to fight in their defence, or a tongue to launch my voice against the damnable and cursed doctrine of Wilberforce and his hypocritical allies.”

Pull it down?

Not easy to balance on a plinth if all brass. Might have to be a fiberglass statue with the legs filled with gravel ;-)

Actually - don't pull it down - just remove Nelson for his opposition to the abolition of slavery - put someone more worthy up there. There could be a national poll to choose from modern day celebrities

One statue gets thrown in the river and now we are airbrushing history? Bit of a stretch given all it did was highlight the actual history and not the romantic version of Colston.

I’m all for educating people on our history, trouble is we don’t actually teach people the real history, we teach the airbrushed version and then get upset when people point out the real story.

Take Churchill, I don’t have an issue with his statue or his status given his role at a crucial time. I can also accept that he was a racist who didn’t give a shit about two million dying in a famine. I can accept he was a **** who became a necessary ****. I am happy to accept his role in 1939 to 45 and have no problem discussing his failures as a person when it came to India or Ireland.

But we only hear about the good Churchill, barely anyone knows about the other Churchill, and if you try and talk about it you get a lot of angst and panty wetting.

The problem is one of perception. We have a romantic, idealised perception of ourselves and how we think people outside of the UK see us or should see us. To admit anything different is, for a lot of people, too much to handle.
