That's because for some of the country there is no virus.

The US has a population size that is 4x greater than the UK and a massively varied population spread over a massive physical space which isn't accounted for in the figures.

The best example of how population skews things is New York which has seen twice as many confirmed cases as the whole of the UK however New York has a population size that is 9x smaller than the UK. New York also accounts for 10% of all US confirmed cases.

Contrast this with California which has a population perhaps 4-5x greater than New York and not too far off similar to the UK... California has seen far less cases and far less deaths than both New York and the UK.

So for some places in the US it does make sense to send people back to school and work because the virus risk is non-existant. Oklahoma for example is a massive state physically, it has a population of 8 million but it is seeing less than 10 deaths a day and less than 200 new cases a day for the whole state. There is no reason whatsoever for Oklahoma to be in lockdown.

I agree on places like Vegas but that's because Vegas is unique in it's position where people will travel and bring the virus with them. It's highly unlikely however that people will be travelling from New York to a suburb of Oklahoma city so the risk level is completely different.
 
Had thought he might stand down on health grounds, but his defiance and challenge to allegations regarding his ailing health suggest he will not.
Long way to go yet, and I think the situation will worsen for the people before November.
 
Trying to get cases down worldwide while it's rife in America will not be easy. He's killing beyond his borders.

Trump hates being corrected after the fact by his team - thinks it makes him look stupid (which it does). He also likes undermining his own people, he has contempt for them all. Its like a loyalty test - he does this to you and then sends you out to do it again, anyone who flinches gets booted.

He also loves controversy and moving the story line along. The classic Bannon technique is to jump from one controversy to the next - this helps move on from the Tulsa turnout debacle. Give it a few days and there will be something else. This media baiting helped him get over the line in 2015 buts its getting pretty tired now. The admission on testing is likely to go down pretty badly with some of his voters - many of them elderly and at risk.

Exactly this. And he can't "move on" from COVID-19 as a negative for him and his Administration. What can save him? Right now -- and this isn't a jinx, I am going to worry every second between now and the day he leaves office -- a miracle vaccine, or Biden getting sick, look like his best (and maybe only) bets.
 
He's in Arizona tonight. A round table (playing with his phone) about border security.
Followed by remarks to "Young Americans". If they're drawn from Turning Point, it could get very offensive.

Has he had a war anytime soon? If not, he already thinks Venezuela is American, so there or Seattle.
