Pretty much.

DeSantis (Florida) was the guy that kept the beaches open for Spring Break.
Yeah I watched his speech about opening up after don told him too,i have been more impressed with the mayor's than the governor's and I would say they are much closer to the people than they are,i haven't watched CNN as much as when they were doing the briefings but sounds like it is a good time to tune back in !

Florida is the big make or break for Trump. Its Rep controlled so he has the advantage of dirty tricks, he 'lives there' when not in Washington (having abandoned New York where he has practically zero support). The convention was moved to Jacksonville where under normal circumstance that is a big statement about how critical a city/state is in a campaign however this is looking more and more like a liability.

The convention is in Florida as Trumps needs a win in Florida. Trump pressures Florida to stay open as he doesn't care about Covid. Covid spikes massively so that hangs over it.

Don't forget the convention is being moved from Charlottesville where Trump praised the both sides of the Nazi V's anti Nazi flare ups. The formal part of the convention is still to be in Charlottesville however the virus prevented a mass gathering so the party / acceptance speech has been moved to Jacksonville. This will coincide with the 60th anniversary of the brutal beating of black activists in Jacksonville protesting segregation that came to be known as "Ax Handle Saturday,". Is it a coincidence all these Trump events seem to fall on locations and dates that link back to the repression of black people in some way or another.

Two words - Stephen Miller.

It's got his name all over it.

The problem for the GOP in a post Trump world is what to do with his legacy - defend it or not. The base will want to defend it but that is probably not the way back in to power. They need another Regan type who was an acceptable face for more of the same. But Regan didn't have to defend Nixon as he had owned up to his mess and the fall out was largely contained within his circle. Regan was a fresh start. But how can you have a fresh start after Trump - so many of them are tainted and the fall out will go on and on.

Shame Beto O'Rourke didn't energise the voters...don't know a great deal about him but he looks like he knows what he's talking about.

I'm slowly clearing out old papers. I came across a piece I'd written (not sure now what for). It was just after Hungerford, and began with blurb for a "toy": "Rambo M60 Gun and Target set. Two guns in one. A machine gun sound and a rotating ammo belt. Set includes combat knife, Rambo headband and soft darts. No batteries are required." The whole piece was about societal acceptance of violence (and the MoD sending videos to schools to counter CND stuff by teaching kids about enmity), but it was this bit that leapt out. "Psychologists have strong evidence that a good proportion of those who have control of nuclear weapons exhibit some degree of instability. It may be the responsibility - as in Richard Nixon's calm statement, 'I can go into my office, pick up the telephone, and in half an hour fifty million people will be dead'. It may be the sense of power. But the question remains: do people go mad because they have such power, or do they seek such power because they are mad?"

Its alarming to think that it is 'possible' that Trump may not have been verbally briefed on the Russisn bounty Intel because they were fearful of a tantrum.

If they can't stand up to him over something like that, imagine if Trump decided to nuke N.Korea?

He's a rampant narcissist, and I also think he's batshit crazy enough to do it if he believed it would benefit him.

He was this way before, but now he has the opportunity I think it's made him worse.

Let's just hope his General's will stand up to him if it ever comes to the ultimate life or death decision.

With Carter as his running mate?

That's a good question, the GOP have really kicked themselves in the foot with their capitulation to the Orange idiot. Hard to believe there isn't/wasn't an inside coup waiting to pounce and run against him, he really doeas have the party locked down. I think a John Kasich and Nicki Haley ticket would do well

Haley has been angling for something but she isn't red meat for the red neck base. They would take Sarah Palin over her.

Trump will go to his grave insistent that everyone but him was corrupt and that he was the best POTUS of all time. 'Some people say better than Lincoln'. Him going to jail for corruption would not alter that and a good chunk of his voters will believe it whatever come out in the wash. So if you are the next GOP candidate you have to answer the question was Trump corrupt? There is no answer that doesn't piss of a huge block of your potential voters. Every GOP candidate in every type of election will have to face that issue, not sure which way they will go as a party.
