Liverpool (H) Post-Match Thread

That isn't VAR's fault, it's that idiotic handball rule that was introduced at the start of the season by FIFA without taking into account incidents like that one where the attacker handles it as a result of a foul.
Foden didn't handle the ball, the ball struck his arm as he was felled from behind. Utter shite decision to disallow it by the VAR system if that clarifies it for you.
Gabby Logan actually quoted the incident at the end of the Tottenham disallowed goal discussion, commenting that Mahrez's goal was another poor decision but they didn't mention it as City were already 4 goals to the good

The handball rule is a prem/fa rule,it is different to the governing bodies rule and they have had plenty of scathing words from them,it does is /not supposed to be this complicated, pigmol could change it if they wanted to
No Karen it was a rule introduced by the International Board and ratified by FIFA that a goal must be disallowed if it was directly assisted by a handball. It's a stupid rule and leaves a difference in interpretation between attackers and defenders handling the ball, as seen in Alexander Arnold's non-penalty handball at Anfield.

Even Carragher admitted that City are much better technically. They are a glorified long ball team, its effective but I'd rather watch City any day of the week.

Nearly every they time they lump it up to the right to Salah or to the left to Mane. It’s not aimless hoofs, it’s long balls into a targeted space. Get 2 good fast full backs who can man mark like glue and they’re fucked

That's handball under the ludicrous new interpretation from the start of this season that a goal cannot be assisted by a handball, accidental or not. In this case VAR just applied the law as it stands.

2 good teams. City better technically. No way we should be 20 points worse off than that lot. Big win for us in terms of putting a marker down for next season and building confidence for the rest of this one. Make no mistake, the media would have been insufferable had we lost that. De Bruyne and Foden are massive.

I actually rarely post in the match day thread - i did tonight but its rare as Im usually watching the game so again you are wrong.

Liverpool had 3-4 chances before we scored (including hitting the post) - that had nothing to do with unlukcy - it was to do with mistakes by our players - the very ones i pointed out before the match. go and re watch it and you will see.

I understand some fans cannot take even the slightest bit of criticism or opinion that may make it look like we aint perfect but in the first 20 mins we got away with it on a number of occasions and if you cant see that (or wont) then thats your problem. This isnt negative its just a fact.

I agree we also created a lot of chances - it could have been 6-7 tonight with one being cleared off the line as it was going in and one good goal disallowed by the most ridiculous interpritation of the handball rule (that also funnily happened to spurs as well this evening)

The point that maybe either Im not making very well or people are missing is that when we play Liverpool (and a couple of other similar teams) we have come undone before cause of the points I made before the game - tonight that happened again BUT we got a way with it down to some good keeping, poor finishing/first touches and the post also saving us. Previously Liverpool have been lethal in those situations and they have punished us. We always create chances BUT if they had scored first (like in the past) it could have been a very different game. As i said in a differnt post, if you weather the first 20-25 mins against liverpool then they usually slack of a little in their pressing and you have a much better chance - and tonight that happened
Games last 90 mins, mistakes, chances and goals in the first quarter are not necessarily decisive.

We battered em tonight
