Nathan Ake

CB + LB. Two birds, one stone. Exceptional ball playing ability, decently quick. As a backup player, you don’t expect him to have everything:

“The Bournemouth man is also quick for a centre-back, which is a highly valuable trait considering the high defensive line that City opt to employ virtually every single week. Ake is less vulnerable than most when having to deal with through passes in behind.

On the negative side, though, Ake is very poor aerially in comparison to his peers, which may stem from his height - standing 5ft 11in - meaning he would be City's shortest centre-back.

Some 58 central defenders have accumulated over 1,000 minutes in the Premier League this season, with Ake placing 57th for aerial duel success.

He wins just 46.6 percent of his aerial battles which places him ahead of only Southampton's Jack Stephens and for further context, some 283 central defenders have accumulated over 1,000 minutes in Europe's top five leagues this season with Ake ranking inside the bottom 25.”

Decent signing if true

Main CB hopefully Koulibaly and Ake will cover CB and LB

We all know Stones and Otamendi weren’t being selected for next season and hope Stones gets a decent club (Arsenal?)

Wow

Nice to see Txiki address the lack of pace at the back issue. Makes us less vulnerable to counters.

Now Koulibaly in and good LB in and job done.

I think he is a good signing and one I suggested we make a few weeks back on one of the threads on here.
However, surely we couldn't play Ake and garcia together due to both of them being short for centre halves.

against cannon fodder we can. we keep the ball most of the time so the opponent wont have many chances to hoof it to our box.

Is he better than what we have? Not sure.
Better than Stones or Otamendi, better at left back than Zincheko,. If we had to play Laporte/Ake or Koulibaly Ake we'd be okay As part of a back 3 with both would work too.So yes he is.

I'm still a bit unsure about this one. It'll be interesting to see what Pep plans to do with him, but I'd be worried about him being our CB given his lack of aerial prowess. Pep loves a versatile player and has a record of improving players, but as it stands, I'd say he's no better than second best in any of the positions he can play in and at CB he plays in the same position as our best defender. Perhaps for tactical variety (i.e. a back three) he'll prove useful. Having said that, Bournemouth fans seem to think he's amazing, and that's usually a good sign. When we bought John Stones, there were plenty of Everton fans who were happy to get the money.

Great buy. Allows us to offload Otamendi and Zin. Pretty quick, knows the league, strong personality.
