So he wants to go well let’s get best price possible and move on

He’s ok but still a lot to learn

He has a right to the life he wants and I wish him all the best but we have to get best price and look at replacements

Not a single fuck is giving.

Next.

This is only my opinion but I've not changed my views on him just because he's called for a taxi.
I think that he's very good now (at 19yo) and that he'll further develop into an excellent player, maybe even world class, but he wasn't the right fit for us because his heart wasn't in our project at this juncture.
Maybe if he'd played his games in front of a proper crowd he'd have felt the love of our supporters and stayed? And maybe he looked at one of these forums and presumed the barbed comments to be typical of our supporters thoughts towards him (which could put anyone off!)

Anyhow, whatever the case, I'm not in the least angered by his impending departure, he's been a loyal employee, he's never bad mouthed the club or downed tools or anything of that nature. But he's a Spanish Catalan and he wants to play for the team he supported as a kid, the club that developed him throughout his most formative years, the "local / Catalan" team that's also amongst the best in Europe. Plus he gets to live at on his own stamping ground where the sun shines and his family and friends will be all around him.
Who could be so full of bile as to lambast a young lad for that?

We have a huge academy, we take young players from lots of other clubs around the world and it's inevitable that some of them will toddle off in due course because if they weren't minded to ever move clubs then we'd have never got them in the first place would we?
Some will do it in such an arsey fashion that they won't be welcomed back. Some, like Eric Garcia, will leave with fond memories of the time they had with us, may have felt the love of our club and may be grateful for that and inclined to return one day.
Barca's management structure seems to suffer repeated trauma. Maybe Eric will sign on for 5 years and then be heading back to us when he's 23/ 24 and has developed into a world beater with 1 year left on his contract?

Those who struggle to deal with loss should maybe understand that it's their own emotional frailty that makes them get like that, and then think twice about slating the lad. It doesn't change anything, it's not nice and it makes them sound like quivery lipped scousers.
The fact remains that he could well develop into something very special and he could maybe return to us one day - so no point in getting out of shape and burning emotional bridges because it's childish and who know eh?
Mere speculation that he might one day return in glory. Sorry to see him go and tbh am more than a tad pissed off that this has come up before a critical game. Surely this could have waited until after our European fixtures are finished. Personally he would be on the bench tm if it was up to me interesting to see what Pep does. This is far from ideal particularly considering recent defensive failings.

Fair play to him. He’s returning to his boyhood club that he grew up supporting to play for them. Can’t fault the guy for that. Best of luck to him, he’ll be a cracking player.

Will be interesting to see who our 2nd RCB option will be now if we sign Koulibaly or Pau Torres.

How long do you keep waiting for Stones to 'sort his head out'. It really is in everyones best interests if Stones moves on.

Otamendi has the best chance of staying, he knows what Pep wants and is out of contract next year anyway. Unless Txiki can work some magic we will struggle to move Otamendi on so we may as well keep him. Unfortunately maybe loan out Tosin for another season or sell him as well.

Koulibaily and Otamendi as your two options at RCB is fine.
He’s only 26 , he will be fourth choice , even if he doesn’t pick up his form we have Fernandinho and THB or Tosin as a backup

Otamendi is a liability now , he cost us at least two games last season with his comedy defending - can’t stop himself from diving in when one on one

give stones one more year , if he’s shite then THB is one year older and more ready to be fourth choice

Every time we lose a young player, we've lost the next Messi according to some. And then 5 years later, you see them playing for some mid-table side in Belgium. He might turn out to be world class. The law of averages says he won't though.

Before his bad injury he was top class, not really his fault he got injured which clearly shook his confidence. Up to Pep now to see what happens with him
No, he was a fanny most of the time, but then had one purple patch where he was confident and looked great. Then he went back to being a fanny. For some reason, some people want to believe the one good patch was the real Stones, rather than the other 5+ years of his career, where he's been one mistake away from completely falling to pieces for months. Mentally he is unbelievably fragile

Pep and co really need to focus on the local lads. They need more chances

Agree to an extent. However, I think there’s more raw talent in the favelas and villas of South America, which is where we should be looking. They’re hungrier to achieve and when you come from there, you don’t want to go back.

Does publicly stating a player wants to leave and does not want to sign a contract helps City in anyway. I know it would have been a known thing inside a club but gives a negative vibe to the situation before a very important match.

he has said he doesnt want to stay, there is only one club he wants to go to, he will go there. we will get a smallish transfer fee 10 million, risin to 20 million.
barcelona will be taking a punt on a player with promise, but unproven, it is not one of the more complicated scenarios.

Why would we let him go for cheap when we'd get that in a year or so automatically?

This is Barcelona who pay Griezmann 800k a week or 130mil to give Coutinho a loan career. They can afford a fair wedge. And they charged us 17mil for Bravo ffs, don't let him go underpriced.

It's not exactly as if we're losing the next Kompany is it, he hasn't got THAT much potential. And if he reaches a good level I'm sure City will insert a low buy back clause.

Let’s everyone understand why he’s not in the squad tomorrow and gets it out of the way, perhaps.

Wasn’t good enough to make the squad for the first leg, and any injury might jeopardise his imminent sale, so for me he shouldn’t even make the bench.

That one of our brightest young prospects wants to leave?

Pep thought he was good enough at aged 19 to play ahead of Stones and Otamendi.
And Ferna.....Genuine question, would he of played as much if we’d had a season like the previous two? Covid & the mainly dead rubber nature of our league games gave him a great platform, not to mention some easy-ish fixtures, fwiw I thought him being in the side affected Walker who looked like he didn’t quite trust him, Arteta certainly knew where to target in the semi

I await the coverage of this being how we lose kids because we don't give them a chance...

Whereas he did his chance but has just decided to go elsewhere.

So whilst it won't stop people from knocking us and our youth plan it's not a bad advertisement at all. He broke through, was a first team player and has gotten a move to Barcelona.

Whilst I don't agree with his decision it's not painted us in a bad light.

Although I can already name the usual suspects even on here that will cry and moan and already have the u14s CBs in the squad next season...
I'm not sure i really agree here. Unless its a Covid decision then i imagine he thought at the start of this season he would feature more. Then Laporte is out for the season he thinks now is my chance and he starts 2 games up until the covid break. Only once football returned did pep give him a chance and i wonder how much of that had to do with Pep knowing he was considering leaving. For me, his mind was probably made up this season at his lack of football pre covid and the pull of going back to barca.
