Aké is a serious improvement to Stones and Otamendi but I agree, we still need someone even better than him.

Don’t really get the ”we have other areas to improve”. We literally improved all other areas these past few years. We’ve had very few defensive signings turning out great considering what we paid. We’re starting to see Cancelo now, we have Walker and Laporte. But the rest of them haven’t been great.

Attacking wise, we still outscored Liverpool this season by around 30(!) goals. We have no problems up front, or in midfield. Our problem is defence and it was the same last summer.
Ake is a great addition to the squad and makes up stronger, we must sign a LB, the french kid with the unpronounceable name looks an exciting prospect/signing. Still think we could sell Cancelo if we got our money back , and if so would need a squad RB (Brazilian Kid?)
Auoar to strengthen midfield.
Then big money on long term replacement for Kun and a worldie CB.

I wouldn’t sell Cancelo in a million years. He has tremendous quality. Against Real, he and Walker were excellent. Selling Zinch and Angelino would pave the way for someone like Tagliafico or Telles at LB.

Agree Cancelo the player is exciting , just can't work his character out. Is he got the fight and drive to push Walker out? Walker has always risen to the challenge and made it impossible to drop him.

On the evidence against Madrid, i would want him at lb for remainder of the campaign. Mendy would be a risk. Who knows pep might turn him into a fine lb, potential is there for sure

Agree with above. He could be great at LB and Walker will need rest at times.

Great for the odd game, same as Ake but he is not a LB and never will be.

If pep can turn a midfielder into lb (Zinchenko), why can he turn a talented rb into lb? If you ask Cancello he would rather work hard and develop himself into lb rather than fighting walker for his spot and sitting out most games

Call me old fashioned but a LB has to be left footed. As said very useful as a stand in occasionally but not a long term solution just the same as Delph and Zinch.
I really want Mendy to be successful but have my doubts, injuries have affected him badly.
We desperately need a top class LB.

Not sure that message means anything. Didn't he hit the 4-year mark at the club yesterday? So it was likely just a message acknowledging that.

Have a hard time thinking that after starting Fernandinho and Garcia over him in recent weeks. Suddenly Pep has decided that he wants him as 4th choice. Why would Fernandinho not be ahead of him in the pecking order next season as well?

A player who has his agent talking to other clubs & is on the verge of leaving, would not normally be telling us he is looking forward to playing here in the future.

Never had a problem with Stones`s ability, we bought what we bought, and for the most part it was good value, but he can not play the Pique role he just is not fast enough, that when he tries causes injuries, if i have a problem with Stones it is because i do not believe he has had that many injuries this season, but Pep has to learn that if he wants to play Pique and Puyol he is going to have to get a fast defender who can play football to a midfielders standard, Zakaria is the only one i have seen capable of that

They would if he wants paying off in full, IF the club wants him out.

Stones is capable of being one of the best defenders in the world but he’s been physically and mentally brittle for 2 seasons. I’d love to see him come through a very difficult spell but I wonder will he ever hit the heights of 2017/18 again.

I am surprised though that he’s not agitating for a move given that he’s more likely to miss out on the Euros next summer if he stays.

Could, we have been saying that for 2 1/2 seasons.
