Kalidou Koulibaly

I hope we have other alternatives to Koulibaly, I'm not entirely convinced on him anyway but the price is ridiculous all things considered and who can be arsed dealing with De Laurentiis. I'd walk away and let them come back to us, if they don't, they don't.

There are plently of choices in Europe: Skriniar, Dias, Torres, Carlos, Gimenez.

Problem with the 1st: strong but seem reckless. 2-4th: untested and not very experienced at the highest level. We would pay top dollar not really knowing what to expect. 5th Gimenez: cost too much, 120m.

My dreamsigning was De Ligt. Age, quality and actually had a decent pricetag, but was never happening because of that royal prick of an agent he has, Raiola.

For me, Koulibaly is probably still our best bet. Imagine him getting a boost joining us and playing for Pep. He’s a physical monster and he knows how to defend. One could only hope he keeps his pace intact and stay of injuries. Then he’d be a topsigning.

About the transfer fee, I believe the club refuses anything above 65m, maybe addons to 70m if he wins UCL.
 
A few bad games doesn't mean Koulibaly is rubbish. He's been consistently world class for 5 seasons now, and the performances against Liverpool/Salah and PSG/Mbappe should be enough to make your mind up. You'll still get those that compare him to Mangala even though this guy has dominated the best strikers in World Football. This video will show you a very intelligent defender off the ball.

The situation with Garcia leaving has definitely intensified the search in my opinion, although if we don't see any real alternatives to Koulibaly then we go into next season with Stones, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Adaradiayo and Harwood-Bellis. There's no point throwing money at the situation unless we're sure (well as sure as we can be) about a player.
 


Imagine this defending against a World Class striker who was a star at the world cup alongside another world class defender. Koulibaly alongside Laporte would become even better than he was at Napoli in his greatest years. He never gave Mbappe the chance to get in behind- at all. His pressing resulted in Mbappe having to play with his back to goal 35 yards out and when he was in a position to run onto a ball Koulibaly was already goal side with a 5 yard headstart to the ball.

Imagine how easy his game would become alongside a defender who rarely leaves space in behind for a striker to exploit. This partnership could be formidable.

Hope he signs for us just to prove the doubters wrong.

This wouldn’t happen in a billion years. I assume you’re joking. The club will buy a CB, there’s no doubt about it.

Not joking at all. If the right player isn't available for the right price, we go with what we have got already. It's been the way for a number of years (Jorginho, Maguire, Laporte 1st time, Sanchez) and I don't see any reason to make me think things will change now.
 
Was thinking about our centre back conundrum and the general dearth of world class ones. Italian football is seen as the "art of defending" but have any Italian centre backs been a hit in the Premier League? My hazy memory is very few Italian players come over here despite the vastly greater wages on offer

If City decided to go with what we have got in defence, it would be a big gamble imo. At present our best cb's are Ake and Laporte, albeit both are left footed. Otamendi will be sold and I don't think Pep trusts Stones anymore which is understandable. We definitely need another cb and I am confident another cb will be purchased.

Can understand your feelings on stones but he has been absolutely shocking this season and he wasn’t great last season . We cannot go into a new season with John stones still at the back
