Say what you want about how shit we were in that first half and how wasteful we were in the second half but we were the team looking more likely to score a second until that corrupt VAR call. It would be nice if our players didn't let these things affect them but they always do.
The scorer tripped up the defender who would have been covering that side, accidental or not it's a foul. Definitely a wrong VAR call, even Peter Walton didn't side with the VAR call.
I heard his take on the offside but I don't agree with the reasoning, that he wasn't affecting play. How is a player not affecting play if he dummies the ball and lets it go through his legs? The whole defence stopped because of his actions. Didn't affect the play my arse.
Every season in the CL, without fail,we get calls like this. People will claim one call shouldn't matter because we should be good enough to over come it but that's as naive as it gets. Of course these moments matter, they swing the momentum and decide games in the knockout stages. The only thing I would agree with, is it does make you question if the will power of our players is up there with the best teams. I'd love us to have a decision like that and instead go out an smash the other team in defiance but I don't see it happening.
As for the rest of the game, Pep got the team selection wrong, I said we were looking slow, we let their attack get warmed up in the first 10 mins pretty much.
I think people are giving Lyon too much credit, this was just the Arsenal game 2.0. We poor in that first half, and we've been crap at turning games around when we go behind this season. Lyon didn't really create alot of chances, the second goal shouldn't have been allowed and the 3rd goal was just a gift from Eddie, that Sterling seemed to knock the stuffing out of us.
Maybe it's better we didn't embarrass ourselves against Bayern in the end, our defending is atrocious at times.
