Kalidou Koulibaly

Years of watching us spunk millions on supposedly great defenders only then to watch them develop into complete clowns. Did you not witness the Lyon game? Just look at the money we've wasted on centrehalves and fullbacks, it's shocking. Our inability to develop defenders into a defence is beyond comprehension. Just examine the complete nonsense of Left-back. We already had Angelino at the club and he was looking a decent player but was sold/loaned to various clubs as we thought he wasn't good enough. Meanwhile we bought that clown Mendy and latterly Cancelo. Neither proved to be capable during various periods of time so we have even seen midfielders Zinchenko and Delph be required to play there. All have failed to make the position safe so we brought Angelino back and even he couldn't defend in our team (despite being great in any other team he's played for), so once again he was released and is now at Leipzig and about to play in a Champions League Semi after we have on countless occasions dismissed his ability to fill the role on which we have spent a bloody fortune. The fact is it's not the players, it's our non existent defensive coaching strategy that guarantees this annual nonsense of wasting money on players to make a defence. THAT IS WHAT I'M BASING MY ARGUMENT ON.
As much good we are at buying forwards we are piss poor buying CBs.

I wish we were going all out for Boubacar Kamara, i dont think iv ever seen a young CB at 20 years of age be so commanding and dominant in a back line. Kamara is who we should go for someone is going to buy him for big big money in the future.

Boubacar Kamara and Leonardo Balerdi will be a great pair for Maseille.
And jesus christ how many talented CBs does France have? Varane, Laporte, Hernández, Lenglet, Upamecano, Konaté, Umtiti, Zagadou, Koundé, Diallo, Kimpembe, Kamara, N'Dicka...

By the way, has anyone else noticed that Malang Sarr is now a free agent?

I'm not sure if they want to get organized. Things seem to be going quite well for them the way things are, without any sort of regulations of sindicated norms. Each super-agent is like a mafia family.

That’s true but imagine if they did get organised. That would be a an organised mafia.

France have so so much talent coming through again, they could hold that World cup for a while.

It's insane. I'm very excited for the Euro next year. France, Germany and England really looking like contenders.

They really could. The only team that could possibly push them is Germany. They also have some Nice young talent coming through.

Not sure why no one is picking him up. Maybe I’ve just not focused on any news concerning him

I think the dark horse for upcoming tournaments would be Norway, they have Haaland,Odegaard,Sander Berge,Ajer and Lars Lagerback is their coach the guy that was managing Iceland during euro 2016.

I don't think they'll be contenders even though they have a very bright future ahead. They'll be like Croatia, Belgium and Portugal (before 2016): playing great football but never actually making it.

There are so many good young defenders out there i dont understand the clubs obsession with Koulibaly, look at other leagues theres Elvedi,Kamara,Sarr,Ginter.

I don’t think there are that many great defenders in football anymore, especially at the top level. The onus on them being comfortable on the ball and being part of the buildup (or in the case of fullbacks, integral to attacking the opposition), coupled with the increasing crackdown on physicality in the game has left us with a generation of defenders that don’t look comfortable defending a lot of the time.

The biggest weak spots for me are diagonal balls played into channels and pretty much anytime forwards run off the shoulder. Bayern are a great team but still got done in behind Kimmich for two simple goals. None of our fullbacks can deal with these balls either.

You need the whole team defending to mitigate that. Pressure on the ball is absolutely critical.Tireless, organized pressure high up the field is the best defensive tactic in the modern game.

None of them are close to Koulibaly's level though. I really don't think people realise how good he actually is.

Elvedi is getting there 23 years of age , the reason Monchengladbach had the 3rd best defence in the bundesliga this season.

He might. But the club want someone who they can drop in and be the senior CB alongside Laporte.

They've signed Ake as the younger profile who'll improve with age. They want Koulibaly for here and now.

True, but you have to have something better than " fuckinell they're in 'ere " for when it fails & we don't.

Bayern don't either tbf & I was looking forward to seeing Jesus & Sterling tearing them a new arsehole, but after seeing our shitshow v Lyon, thank fuck we didn't play them.
