The acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York (DOJ), which replaced the previous one removed by Barr (Attorney General, head of the DOJ), brought the indictment.

Perhaps Barr attempted to obstruct the indictment (among others) with the removal of the previous US Attorney for the SDNY and the acting attorney is bringing it anyway (as she did with Maxwell). Will we see Barr attempt to step in to have the DOJ drop the case? Or will it lead to Bannon fully flipping to save himself?

Or this could be a “sanctioned” arrest in order to keep Bannon and co in line leading up to the election (dangling the pardon for compliance). He had started to go against the grain in ways potentially damaging to Trump and his hold on some of the QAnon nutters.

At any rate, we’ll soon find out based on how Bannon acts over the next few months and the public moves Trump and Barr make related to the indictment.

It is pardonable (if convicted) by the POTUS as it is a Federal indictment. But you are correct that if he is convicted, it likely won’t happen before the election.

That’s not something that would stop Trump/Barr offering a pardon for compliance, though, especially if they are confident they will “win” a second term as long as things don’t go tits up in the Trump nutter voter base.

The thing about Trump enablers is not really that they're grifting criminals, fleecing hapless, hopeless cult members at every turn by preying upon their fear and anger -- we've seen that movie before countless times. It's that they are so incredibly inept at crime that they get caught red-handed.
