Kalidou Koulibaly

pau Torres,

That's a huge step down.

And that's the problem. Koulibaly has been an established top-tier centre back for half a decade. All of the other players we're linked with are firmly in the "might become world class, might be another Stones" category. And no, I don't count Upamecano as that new contract will make it almost impossible to get him out this summer.

We need someone to come in and be a regular starter at a high standard, we cant afford to give our new CB a season to settle in.

His most memorable performance for us that one. Hard to forget. Whatever he had for breakfast that day, he needs to get back on it.
Koulibaly always play like this ... That's why I tell you, you don't know what level it is, and these words of yours make it clear ... What you see is not human! I hope he stays with Napoli if we have 60/70 mln. .. Although I would be sorry because he wants to go to a big club, and after so many years it would be right. But if these are the figures, definitely not. I hope ADL is not fooled

So after were sent packing, what is your plan B
Oh is Koulibaly the only CB in the world good enough to play for us, my mistake.

If you listen to half this forums posters we somehow managed to win the league with Sunday League quality defenders (Stones and Otamendi) in the past, so an improvement shouldn't be too difficult.

You said we should offer £35m or walk. We'll, we both know we would be walking.

Do you really think Txiki is going to be so naive and cut his nose to spite his face.

It was a ridiculous suggestion on your part and one which I'm sure Txiki wouldn't entertain

Napoli are desperate to sell, 35 plus add ons, or walk away.
I have more faith than many in our team. Our record of 65 mil, is 25th in the World, let it remain.
29 is 29

Only I didn't did I, you've got posters mixed up.

He has been incredible but I think it is the right moment now to sell and to buy younger players for the future. City need a proven world class player but Napoli can not wait 1-2 years and then see him go into decline and have no means to renew. The deal makes sense for both clubs. I think ADL wants other clubs to come in so he can get more money. I am nervous that this may happen. There are many top European clubs who need new defenders: Bayern, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG. The only club that does not are Liverpool.

Certain users here rate Otamendi and Stones but think Koulibaly is a bad purchase lol

Hope we pay whatever to get the deal sorted. Need him expeditiously

You said everything right, but in Italy they say "making a virtue of necessity". If Koulibaly remains, with the Napoli signings, maybe we can win. It's a risk, right! But if he plays at his level, we sell him for the same price we talk about today with an extra year. Napoli has no debts, to take osimhen we sold players for 92 million, they were all players on loan, bought for little money in recent years (Inglese, Sepe, Grassi, Verdi etc.). We have to sell Allan, Milik, Hysaj, Ounas, Maksimovic ... About 100 Mln will still enter, selling Koulibaly is not a necessity

So you want to go into the season with 3 left footed and left sided centre backs?

First of all we will only play with two at any one time.
It seems ok for many teams to play with two right footed Cbs , No difference two left footed, if they are well balanced, which you would expect if they are playing for an elite team.
Unless you subscribe to the jamie carragher idea, that two right footed are fine , but not two left footed. Which he said last week.
If they cant defend on both sides, then they shouldn't be playing for City, whichever is their strongest kicking foot.
I would be looking more at basic strengths, positioning, decision making, recovery rates, awareness of runners, relationships with the rest of of the back four, speed, communication.
If the foot they prefer to kick with detracts from these skills, then they are not good enough.

Fair enough. I agree with your point that it shouldn't really make a huge difference but I just can't see the club doing it.

I agree totally with that theory, but for one, many 'top' footballers can't, it seems & two, it very much appears Pep insists on that balance.

The biggest impact is on the ability to play out from the back. The majority of players will revert to their strongest foot when playing, especially under pressure and playing with any unbalanced duo will cause problems with the way we play. Otamendi isn't a bad player at all in possession but if you look back at the goal against Norwich away, Stones plays a pass which forces Otamendi to take a touch to bring the ball back onto his stronger side, that alone causes that goal. If he was left footed, he would have taken the ball forwards, not backwards, so the situation would never have arisen.

Playing in midfield or wherever is easier because you're not the last line of defence and generally losing possession doesn't result in a goal scoring opportunity.

It's also far safer for a player to play a pass (e.g. left footed LCB to left winger) using with the natural curl of the ball going down the touchline. A right footed LCB to left winger would see the natural curl of the ball going inside to out, giving opposition teams more chance of interceptions.

Journo Alfredo Pedulla on friday: Koulibaly will leave Napoli and join City. Since, nada.
They start pre-season tomorrow! If anything happens it should be very soon.

I don’t know if it was a translation issue or something but I don’t understand why people acted like Pedulla broke big news on Friday. All he said was that Koulibaly will go to City in the context of a tweet about Napoli’s interest in Matvienko. He didn’t mean it in the sense that anything new had been agreed, he was just kind of stating what we already knew - that Koulibaly has a deal with City
