So it's now a Webster 'buy-out'? If that is routine, then maybe Barcelona are better off just negotiating an amicable exit knowing that a transfer fee will be somewhat limited.

I'm not sure how it works in Spain, he might not need the Webster ruling. A buyout clause is manadatory but they were saying last night, he now doesn't have one, so does that mean it's zero ?

Under normal circumstances one would expect Barcelona to honor him and grant him that liberty of this release of his contract but that is not the case from a financial standpoint.

I believe that this is something that has been brewing for years and now has exploded in a personal confrontation. As a Barcelona fan I’m hurt by both sides, I don’t think the club and it’s fans deserve a fax after and 8-2 loss to communicate that he wants to leave, but I understand his frustration.

If he leaves for city, all Barcelona fans will stand behind you as we already have and wish you the very best and ask that you treat our Messiah like one of your own

Quite a change of heart in these few days, amic.

Messi will sign for city, but let it be known that anything short of a Champions League will be a utter failure.

As a Barcelona fan I can tell you that if you are looking or a leader, he ain’t it. He will no doubt bring you glorious evenings of soccer at the Etihad. I will be right there to wish the team well, but you gotta ask yourself if it’s worth bringing a guy who’s displaying the worst of examples of leadership and gratitude to a club that made him the person he is today.

Most workers in Spain don't have or don't know their buyout clause, but the department of labour will set it at a fair value if there's a conflict.

The whole thing is supposed to protect workers' rights, football clubs have spun it round into protecting the employer, but most of these players with 9 figure clauses could actually take legal action to get their release clause reduced if they really wanted to leave.

He might still have to pay for termination of contract, meaning buying out the year left on his contract. City could help with that of course

Is this from that shit programme where 4 sycophant juornos talk bollocks - I have genuinely forgotten the name temporally it is that long since I have watched it?

I thought that I heard it had been dumped

Might be worth seeing on catch-up - just to see the squirming;-)
Just remembered it is Sunday Supplement - heard it had finished

I think that there is a thread on that so will go and search - I could spend many hours listening to the sycophant journalists spouting bollocks and trying to hide how sick they feel

Maradona
Stoichkov
Ronaldo
cruyff
Romario
Rivaldo
Ronaldinho
Etc...

All of these before Messi stepped foot in Barcelona. Perhaps you are making the same mistake that Messi is. No one player is bigger than the club.

Messi will sign for city, but let it be known that anything short of a Champions League will be a utter failure.

Bringing Messi in to the tune of 50 million euro a season net pay will create a massive gap in the salary structure of any team.

So, Messi played no part whatsoever in becoming the person he is today? It was all Barcelona? Why don’t they just make another Messi then?

A buyout for a 33 year old in the last year of his contract, has to be very affordable, even if it's Messi.

The question would be what City do next, if Barca refuse to discuss it. Presumably we will have to sign him & let the courts argue it out.

Well there was a release clause at E700m we were told. Now the speculation is that that does not exist in the final year of his contract.

I would guess that if he had to buy out his contract it would be on the contractual terms governed by his final year i.e. 10 months salary, and if so any fee should be around that value. I am very uncertain. I am hoping Barca quickly come to terms with where they are and start negotiating with City. That would be ideal.
