I think this week the vast majority of Barca fans will come out in support of Messi leaving. They know what Leo has given them for 20 years and do not have the selfish interests of the people in charge. The fans will wish him well and force the board to change their stance.

So far the response i've seen amongst (non-affiliated) football fans has been one of admiration for how respectfully and maturely we've treated Messi and honoured his wishes without being overly forceful of the move.

I don't think anyone on here has him in a WhatsApp group so obviously it's all come through the media.

But I think those who have been paying full attention are under no doubt that he specifically wants to come here.

I'd love City to leak now that we do not wish to become involved in the internal squabbling of another club and its national association.
We wish Lionel all the best but due to the statement of la liga we will respect Sr Tebas' wishes, as we always have, and remove ourselves from this matter.
We wish Lionel all the best in his current situation and welcome the opportunity to speak with him when he is free to plan his own future etc.

Privately of course we tell Messi that we have his back and he is welcome anytime but not for anything remotely close to the figures being talked about in public.

There is a danger of a legal battle though.
City must therefore distance themselves at the moment. Barcelona have his registration, and until that is released he is going nowhere.
