Did anyone else go to this? Not many Blues there that day.

Bosco Jankovic scored a last minute equaliser, never been so happy to see the opposition score as that day as we surrounded on both sides by Boro Skinheads with cut here tats on their necks.

Had a few kick ins over the years but that was the worst I have ever been to.

I was there. Seem to recall it kicking off as we were stood outside the turnstiles waiting to get in. They just rushed at us taking the police by surprise.
Afterwards they were lobbing bricks over the wall were we were stood waiting to be let out.

I remember seeing a Dad and his son walking down the road about 50 yards from me with a City scarf on and them kicking the shit out of the pair of them, cop ran in to help and he was getting it too until his mates turned up.

Always felt guilty about not helping the dad and lad but dont know what I could do, bedlam.

I was there too mate ..... i went to Ayresome Park a few times , and it was never the best place to really go .... the place was crammed with 'Phill Mitchell' lookalike hoolies , and Middlesbrough fans are a really game bunch .... the first leg of the League Cup semi in the seventies there was a bit dodgy too , especially in the dark, getting back to the train station later.

i have never had a kicking though , anywhere ... although i did come close on occasion , during the seventies, at both Leeds and Spurs.

There was also one occasion in the nineties, or early noughties, when Boro fans came down Wilmslow Road and attacked the Clarence Pub in Rusholme about an hour or so before the game , and i actually encountered them as cops struggled to contain them near to the Sherwood .... and, not content with that, they also entered the home section of the North Stand just before the game was finishing culminationg in a scrap, after which City chased them off.

But all the north east grounds were generally tough places to visit back in those days .... Sunderland was bad enough , but you really had to watch your back up at Newcastle .... and an FA Cup game there back in 1976/77 season , City won 3-1 , was absolutely horrendous ... we had around 10,000 fans there that day , but the constant fighting in the 'divided' Gallowgate End was that bad that a lot of City fans left at half time!

I remember one ayresome park match, it was a boxing day match , I think, at least an xmas holiday match. There was hardly any City fans there, no public transport perhaps.
It went off big style in the home end. They were fighting among themselves. Think it was a draw, but only remember it for the home end fighting.

There was one occasion , after a United game there , when a Boro fan was actually killed as he walked past the visiting section .... 2,000 United fans, being held back in the ground after the game , put serious pressure on the gate and it apparently just collapsed onto the passing Boro supporter.

It was almost certainly this match :

It wasn't home fans fighting each other, a couple of coachloads of City fans went in the home end and when Asa scored after about 25 minutes it all kicked off and the City fans ended up being escorted to the away terracing in the corner. I was told that one of the pubs in Wythenshawe had organised the coaches, not sure how true that was - I went up on the special from Victoria, there were probably a few hundred on that.
