On a positive side if we don't get him, getting Messi could halt us signing players for the next 3 summer transfer windows just purely due to his wages irrespective of his commercial wealth he brings into the club.

Maybe the best approach is to go for a player who's going to be the next big thing like Chelsea have with Havertz. We could sort 3 problem spots out in our squad this summer and get Messi on a free next summer. He could still be the best player in the world at 34.

they want a fee now because its manchester city and knowing we have money, so barca did a u-turn on a deal they had with messi that he can walk away for free
