Messi doesn’t have time in his career to wait for Barca to rebuild. 3 seasons at the most? He needs to move now somewhere stable and be the cherry on the cake or his career is a winner is done. Madrid are coming strong again are are two years further on in their rebuild.

I think City hoped we could make it happen but there is just no way we go back to court for this with everything at stake. A 28 year old Messi maybe but not 33. Messi also can't just say I'm no longer a Barca player and rock up at City without the consent of Barca. Imagine it takes 12 months to sort out during which time we've won the champions league only for it all to be taken away because a court finds in Barcelona's favour. Remember Messi came to us and I think there is no way we'd contemplate going to court on this and there is no way we'd pay the release clause - we simply don't have the money because of FFP.

Jorge goes public with the release clause being invalid this afternoon and Messi lets it be known that he's staying at Barca against his will. This puts pressure on Barcelona to accept a reasonable offer from City and not insist on the release clause being met.

I imagine City will have a financial package they can offer Messi which will include transfer fee, wages and signing bonus. If we had to give Barca nothing then Messi gets the lot BUT a transfer fee comes out of Messi's pot.

I haven't watched the video but don't believe it was made this afternoon. Does anyone know if he was asked about his dads statement today?

Right now I'm less keen on getting Messi for next season - we've been down this road one to many times now BUT if nothing happens this window and a contract hasn't been renewed by January I'm going to get excited again. In the mean time I'm looking forward to seeing our exceptional team again next season.

Tebas is laughing now imo. If they were right with the 700m euros clause still valid then thats why, if they made a huge bluff and Leo messi folded his hand against it then thats why.

So Barty thinks hes saved face here I guess. Also goes to show what a complete shit show of a club he has / is presiding over. Clearly theres no direction and I suspect theres more than Leo on the playing side that believe the same. This once great institution has been ruined by it's own unsustainable management. And now to cling onto some semblance of yesteryear success they renege on a contract with its greatest ever player. Can we see our current City owner doing the same with any of our recent heros..... indeed not. Blissfully Barty thinks 'Look at me, look how I have saved our club.' When in actual fact the right thing to do was to act with some dignity and grant the wishes of Messi. But due to the complete shambles they are in, he would rather cling to his last remaining straw, even if that means they dont get a bean for him next summer. What a complete embarrassment he must be to the Barca fans. In their position I would be rightly pissed off.

Ederson

Walker
Koulibaly (possibly)
Laporte
Ake

Rodri
Foden
De Bruyne

Sterling
Torres
Aguero

I think we are ok ;)

Ferran - Agüero - Sterling
Foden - Aké - De Bruyne
Cancelo - Laporte - Koulibaly - Walker
Ederson

A slight twist!
Aké would provide more speed in defensive midfield, and I think Ferran could be more lethal on the left.

Ake at LB has been really good, Poland not going down that left side , Ake has locked it off brilliantly winning everything

For me it has released pressure from Barcelona now though as all the fans are just happy about Messi staying even if it does cost them money in the long run and they know messi will give everything whether he is happy or not

He is the perfect midfielder for a system that largely bypasses the midfield, agreed

In that sense, Rodri and Gundo are not perfect for Pep's system. Though Pep thinks they are for some reason.

Fernandinho was but he's sadly aged and not the player he was.

I see Bayerns midfield and they're miles better than ours.

I know there's no chance City will bring in anyone to replace them though.

Anyone who is negative towards Tolmie is a numpty to me.

He's shared very accurate info and not things you can guess on, particularly the interview.

And after watching the full interview I feel like I really have a great idea of how much Messi wanted to leave (as TH told us all along). While the media appear to have glossed over it, he reiterates his desire to go being blocked not once, but twice. While he's goes in on the club/president for not keeping their word and allowing him to enjoy the last year's of his career.

I feel sorry for him. That was the purpose of this... right?

It may be the end of the saga, but it's certainly not put it to bed and leaves a few home truths on the table for Barca to address.

I think they’re both more than capable of playing the 6 in Pep’s system, provided they are surrounded by more energetic and dynamic players.

I don’t think a double pivot of Thiago and Goretzka with Müller in front is an order of magnitude better than Rodri and Bernardo with De Bruyne in the hole.

We have the personnel, barring a central defender and possibly a leftback. We just need to use them correctly

So with the players Chelsea have signed, and scousers and rags no doubt continuing to benefit from all VAR decisions, what positions do we need to improve?

I reckon Cancelo can play LB so we don't need another, just Koulibaly at CB and a fast defensive midfielder in my opinion.

The hardest thing to fix is someone to finish off those chances we keep pissing away when we have 20 shots and 80% possession then end up losing the game.

Just my view and I know I'm in the minority but Rodri seems a decent lad but I just think this league is too quick for him. Bernardo of two seasons ago, yes he was amazing. Last season his form fell off a cliff. Meaning he's had one excellent seasons and two very average ones.

That leaves KDB who is immense but it's only him and the reason I'd bring in a top midfielder to play behind him.

Its hard not to get drawn into these transfer sagas and it feels like each time is a dissapointment. I'm being greedy but would love to see us go for a big name player (and get them), similar to when we signed yaya, silva and aguero
