2 weeks until the start and we have big weaknesses still at centre back, centre midfield and we're again not getting a left back and plugging it with a right back.

Also think the forward line needs freshening as Aguero isn't getting younger and had a nasty knee injury.

Instead we're pissing about with a pipe dream of Messi who will mostly likely arrive next year aged 34.

Its boring this one - the Napoli guys is a difficult character - we should walk away and go for Pep's Plan B option of there is one and fuck Napoli off

I agree. Sadly, we can't prey on our direct Premier League rivals as they also have similar problems sourcing quality central defender.

I do think the Ake transfer was very smart business as a result and we could get very lucky with him.

Everyone else outside of the Premier League is an overpriced gamble IMO.

United have had similar problems ever since Ferdinand and Vidic were in their pomp.

People go on about our failings and outlays, but it's the same for them in the same slot.

Smalling £10m, Jones £17m, Bailly £30m, Lindelof £27m, Rojo £14m, Maguire £85m.

I'd like to see more pragmatism from Pep with regards adapting his defensive system and, for me, that still starts with buying world-class defensive midfield legs.

exactly what some people have been saying for a while with the issues around Gundogan and/or Rodri - Rodri out of the two is the better player in that position but we need a younger version of Ferna - was surprised we didnt activate the buy back clause on the lad at VIlla (whose name escapes me at present)

Seriously?

Surely he's having us over? I don't suppose you know what he's said?

I don’t think my heart and my head can take anymore :)

They will be looking at ways aroudn this with suggestions of a possible bid by us - they will want to know the lie of the land with the rest of the board and not just Bart for a start and Messi's dad may have the inside track on that

Messi's dad still talking to us over the weekend. Make of this whatever you prefer!

he has to keep the fish interested until Jan\March, I'd recommend Mr Number, stops these dodgy sales calls coming through

I don't suppose we have asked them to sign a private agreement to join us, there would be some cracking excuses coming out on why they couldn't actually do that, maybe we should buy Jorge a pen ?

I'm also guessing he didn't say sorry we wouldn't push this through and it's going to cost you millions of pounds you don't need to spend

For those thinking this is all part of Messi's cunning plan, its just a shame that the plan was created by Baldrick

Douglas Luiz

WTF?

If the players are not available now, why will they suddenly become available in January?

The weakness in our squad have been there for all to see for 18 months, there are players out there who would upgrade us, let's hope the Tixki does not let his mate down like he did last summer.

What are you 10 years old? Tixki has got more right than wrong and that goes for the club as a whole. We have been the dominate team for ten years in England.I don’t know what more proof is needed. Buying players is one of the hardest parts of managing a successful club. That along with hiring the right manager which tixki was no doubt instrumental.

Probably pleading to see if next year is still ok for his son to come,I'd be saying no ta lad

Why - we would get two good years out of him...Messi doesnt rely on pace as much as others and with the exception of Ronaldo (who is a physical freak of nature coupled with an outstandin work ethic to keep himself in shape), this is what does for most attackers as they age

David Silva just adapted his game slightly as he got older - Sergio has done the same - no suggestion that the best player in the world couldnt do that.

Barcelona's record of buying decent central defenders was also iffy under Txiki. I suspect the real truth is that they are quality defenders in the first instance, but the system Pep plays can expose even the best central defenders.

If we defended 15 metres closer to our own goal, Stones and Otamendi would look more like Baresi and Maldini!

this is totally bang on, the high line causes pretty much all of our issues at the back
We dominate teams but if we don't score early we push further and further up and then we are 0-1 down as they have just hoofed one over the top or straight down the middle.
This also adds risk as Ederson has to come out to cut things off leading us to being down to 10

the only thing I dont agree with is the comparison of Stones and Otamendi, I'd say if we played 15 yards back (old school)
they would look like reasonably competent defenders

Yep

won the league at a canter with Stones and Otamendi at cb, mainly due to Fernandinho being Europes best DM that season

some reason Pep seems to value keeping the ball ticking over rather than bite and mobility and he’s prepared to expose the defence all season for it
