We can blame the defence but calamity defending comes down to the way we play, any defender would love to be sat 20 yards deeper but that can't happen. The team plays on the last man because if we win the ball back fast then we are quickly able to start attacks.

This was the big problem under Pellegrini and Mancini, we defended somewhat better but the chances dried up because we were so pedestrian when attacking.

If you look at the stats, our defence didn't lose the league but rather the attack did. Our shot conversion rate was 4th best and we had at least 100 shots more than any other team so we are indeed very wasteful.

We scored 27 more than Liverpool and conceded just 5 less yet we finished 18 points behind. I can't believe that better defending would change that because look at Spurs away, the derby at home. In the Spurs game we had 6x as many shots and didn't score yet they scored 2...

They scored 2.

Like happened at least once, v almost everybody else who is half good, bar Real Madrid.

So we need 3 to win

Not going to happen against every half decent team, every time.

Sometimes we will need to keep a clean sheet or draw 1-1 vs those teams, or lose.

This happened yesterday

#ManCity had made an offer of €70M plus bonuses for José Giménez (25) - rejected by Atlético Madrid. [
@AlfredoPedulla

Are we just going to pretend that Alfredo Pedulla, an italian sports journalist covering italy is a) reliable for city at all and b) would have any insight into the transfer of a player from a spanish to an english club...?

Obvious bollocks transfer stories do not count.

Vincent Kompany did not leave with no notice, the guy's body was broken, it had been for several seasons, he was on borrowed time, that's was obvious.

Please stop the VAR crap, defeat to Norwich, Spurs, Southampton and twice to Wolves was not VAR.

It was poor tactics, selection, recruitment , errors or any combination you want.

I totally agree about the energy and most important of all mental strength that fourmidable season took out of all the players and staff.

Hence why is was so important to get some fresh, hungry players in last summer to refresh and go again. That's what you have to do when you win, even more so with a manager whose demands are enormous.
Vinny said he was approached in march ,shelved it till May and decided to take the job before the foxes game, interview with sky ,we were expecting him to renew for another year, facts is facts

Var had a huge effect in what it took from us but gave to both red shite ,don't excuse that because we lost some games

Completely agree. The idea that Vinny left with no notice is basically fiction.

1. He told us before the window even opened, which is more than enough time to buy someone else for any other team on the planet except ours for some reason.

2. Had we been able to move him, we were planning on replacing Otamendi last summer. We know this because multiple people reported it at the time and from reports in Spain. Even if you accept that an entire window isn't enough to buy one player, we should have been in the market looking at centerbacks before Vinny left, because we wanted to potentially replace Otamendi.

It was obvious we needed to bring a few in last summer, and Txiki should be criticized for it. It cost us a title this year.

Barcelona need to decide whether they take £100m now and take a further £70m plus off their wage bill, or lose him in a season dominated by damaging rumour and probable discontent.

Messi on a free, even at 34 is worth doing, especially if you have a New York based sister club. I expect City to maintain contact with his agent and if given any encouragement we could bid this Summer.

The prospect of working with Messi might tie Pep down for another couple of years too.

Vincent Kompany was a fading force in terms of injury for a long time, his decision to go into management may have been sudden but that was irrelevant.

The club knew for a considerable time that he had to be replaced. The fact that he played such an incredible role at the run in was a testament to the man and his mentality. Just imagine if John Stones had 50% of the Captains mentality, he would be a worldie.

VAR had nothing to do with us losing games against far inferior opposition last season.

Our defeats to United were down to the utter arrogance of our manager.

Suppose this is the game at play between Messi & Barca - Over to Barca now to risk him going on a free in June after signing a pre agreement with whoever in Jan.

Wonder how much it will cost Barca to keep Messi until June next year - Salary + Bonuses or if the commercial revenue that he brings in covers that + some

The Barca president has hardly said a word since the Messi announcement.

"We really like you guys...but as friends"
It’s not you, it’s us.
We love City but we’re not in love with City.
we’re both looking for different things.
Leo just isn’t good enough for you.
You deserve a player who just comes to City, whatever.
If only we’d met 5 years ago.
Leo actually likes Pep, too much.

Wait until Suarez is sold (to Juventus?) ... bet we hear some scathing stuff from him very soon afterwards.

Sadly, the inverse also applies. Messi probably won't come in January if Pep does not extend his contract. And I have a sinking feeling that Barca is working to get Pep back if only to appease Messi. The Koeman appointment looks as temporary of a job as Santa at the mall.

No point,2 years is a waste of time AND money,Foden and Torres will be 12 months wiser,Kev will still be as great,Bernardo and Raheem if both still with us will be great,it was now or never for me,they go to China or Qatar for one last big pay day,not England.

Like I say,no ta lad, thanks but no thanks

Messi pays for himself (esp on a free transfer which is what it would be) so that argument makes no sense

This is all about ADL taking the piss now due to Napoli loosing out on the lad Arsenal have signed

I think City did it purposely so they accepted below 60m allowing
Its nothing more than ADL hates City & City hate the cnut back

Still doesnt explain why his agent would rack up the air miles - I get that he is acting as an intermediatry
