While bart is there, messi may want to leave but is unlikely to get to. With a new president, he is probably unlikely to get to, but may not want to either. So, still more likely with bartomeu there than not, imo.

Immaterial now anyway, as it seems he has accepted he is staying.

Barti the Clown will not sell as he is the one who can veto the deal. The only power Messi has is on team matters not off field.

How does the 700 million matter? That is only a number if Barcelona don't want to sell him/negotiate.

It's a buyout clause, precisely to do what it was intended for - a release, if you pay it

Barcelona can sell him for any amount they want. Infact not having a release clause would mean that Barcelona can't buy Garcia without City's approval.

Correct, Barca could sell for less if they want to - else player can walk for free when contract permits it. Garcia has no buy out clause, a fee has to be agreed upon between both parties when you know your player wants to leave. How that constitutes irony beggars belief

Your pal lacks an understanding of the term irony while you have mixed the topics of irony and the utility of clauses. What can I say, education has failed you or you failed in your education
Don't want to get into a debate with you on my education. Thanks for that demeaning comment though.

I was told this week that all city staff have been given a pay freeze this year and notified in recent weeks and the general mood within the club was glad he was not coming. The figures involved were distasteful even by football standards and a lot did not want the circus of us becoming messi fc rather than Manchester City. I for one am relieved he is not coming. Just want a few new faces and save the money for sergios replacement.

Don't rule it out. It happens to the best of them and Messi is no exception. It is down to which club will witness that decline.
The only way Messi's game will drop is if he's pissed off, doesn't want to stay at Barca, has lost his confidence in the club, the owners and the team, hands in a transfer request and then stays but doesn't really settle.

I think he'll be fine.

At least they’ve still got jobs, plenty haven’t.

Eventually, everyone slows down and he is no exception but his ability to consistently influence a match remains a cut above anyone in football and I have seen no sign of that decreasing. If anything, a better team would bring him more success in terms of trophies and the collective play

I say this about Suarez, who is clearly on the decline, Leo has no one on the pitch at Barca currently to have link up that is intuitive - no one. It's the first time I have seen that in his career at Barca.

At City, that would not be the case

Nothing to do with his motivation although it is going to be a chalenge for Messi this season. He will phyiscally decline at some point and at 33 years old and the position he plays in it will be sooner rather than later.
