Some scientists think it is getting weaker Karen.

Most scientists that are attributed to saying it, said “mutation” in a long list of other things, masks, vitD, social distancing etc but news only ever pick up on mutation.

Thing is, every country does genome analysis on the virus all the time to identify where outbreaks came from.

If a large mutation had occurred we would know about it within weeks at most.

Fuck me, didn't think Ian Brown would get caught up in all this bullshit - but here we are....

As an aside hospitalisations in England for covid have risen 182 since Friday from 600 to 782

North west has risen to 253 last Monday it was 164

For two weeks ago for reference it was 430. That's nearly a doubling

See earlier. Pages 5494 - 5495 for all the details.

This is kind of reassuring when its put there like this. Add in all the beach stuff, protests etc too. Lots of things that we thought would cause big spikes so far haven't, even with the lags in dates. Fingers crossed it stays this way given the kids have gone back to school. It has in other countries so let's hope for the best here too.

I posted something from Alistair Haimes a while back on here (was drawn into a slight 'conspiracy theorists' posting somewhere else. Who is he? He sound quite 'normal' but I think in with the Spike crowd (and was on that James Delingpole podcast...another right winger/climate change denier)...here he is under the Brown tweet:

Absolutely we would
The guys from the Oxford study have said it is not mutating enough to change the outlook for a vaccine, that and the link that was given was /is well out of date

See Ian Brown's back on it today (and I'm caught in the trap by reposting it ffs...worth if for the comments however).

I don't want to get drawn into having a go a people who don't wear faces masks in the likes of supermarkets (and I'm sure some have genuine reasons) but there was a trio of rum ins in Tesco tonight proudly displaying their naked faces whilst rambling on about 'muzzles'...it's not often Iet angry these days but some people...

lame street media is straight out of trumps mouth,he says it every day

It is what has happened to Wigan and Stockport from 0,1 and 2 to 30 in two or three weeks.

Partly due to more testing and more testing of younger age groups who likely had it at the start too when cases were not picked up as being milder they were not a priority for the few tests then around

Now any symptoms you can get a test (if you can find one). Hence far more are being picked up.

And as soon as an area or a nearby area gets high numbers then focusing on an area will generate more positives.

Its a self fulfilling prophecy to a degree.

Testing hasn’t ramped up that much in the last 4 weeks has it? Warrington were 2 cases per 100k people not that long ago. 2 week rate is now 138 per 100k people. Not sure what has changed in 4 weeks. Pubs/restaurants etc all been open much longer. Strange

My daughters came back today tested last Monday, a completely pointless exercise as she worked all last week
Without wanting to sound a twat, if she thought she needed a test last Monday, why has she been going to work for a week ? If you think you might have it, you're supposed to get a test and isolate until the results are known.

{edit} Just seen your other reply.

I think he's a bit of a dick tbh browsing his twitter, but I sometimes do find myself agreeing with some of the points he makes...while disagreeing with others. I try and follow a wide spectrum of views on this whole thing for a bit of balance. I personally do agree with his views on the rule of six stuff. Think we've totally overreacted to the current situation and we'll potentially do more damage than good.

The weather has been shit, so people are indoors more, especially those who can't go without their pub fix. Earlier in the summer they were outside in beer gardens, but that doesn't work well in the rain. The weather up north has also been worse than down south (it usually is, but it's not been great down here either), so again it helps point at why it's taken off more up north.

The key is/has/always will be, people being indoors in sometimes quite confined spaces, same has happened in hot countries, the hotter it got the more people were inside (air conditioning), so it spread, whilst reducing in the milder conditions where people went outside for fresh air.

The Unemployment rate has increased to 4.1%. 700k people have lost their jobs between March and July with 16-24 year olds (156k job losses) taking the biggest hit.

Thaings are likely to get worse before they get better over then next quarter with furlough set to end at the end of October but some analysts expected the current figures to be worse than they are.

Surely there needs to be something brought in to protect those who will lose their jobs when furlough ends. If cases were remaining really low and restrictions were still being lifted fair enough but we are going in the opposite direction so those jobs aren't realistically going to be there in a months time.

Situation in so many countries seems to be improving. Is it all purely climate related? Eastern European countries such as Serbia and Croatia now seem to be doing ok, having been amongst the first to raise concern about a second wave. Australia seems well back under control, and obviously major decreases in infection rates in the USA, Mexico and Brazil from where they were a short while ago.

There may need to be a more targeted extension of the furlough scheme and an expansion in training for the minority of jobs / occupations that have resilient to the recession and could grow in numbers.

I think it’s important that leisure venues survive this as far as possible so that we can return to a good quality of life afterwards including theatres, cinemas, sports clubs etc.

This situation (employment) was obvious to me weeks ago when GM was subjected to its mini lockdown. Why those who decided that they would not suffer from the virus because of their age could not see that they were jeopardising theirs and others jobs and chose to risk spreading it just sums up the limited thought processing of so many.
