Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Love the sentiment, but these are different times, we are matched on a whole new scale.

With our squad last season was a disappointment for sure.

Yeah I know, and even for those of us of the "Swales" generation I am sure last season was actually a bit disappointing and we do play to a new set of rules and level of expectation and rightly so given the resource at the club. All the same it is good just to remember and reflect in order to combat any potential outbreaks of raggyentitleditis.

I am now of the opinion that if he is to extend, it needs to be a minimum of 2/3 years.

As good as he is and in my opinion he is the best, i don't really see the point in another 1 year extension.

Pep won't be here for six or seven seasons. That just doesn't happen in football anymore. I can see mutual consent at the end of 2020/21 if things don't improve this time.

Would you rather pep come out and say yep this is my last season here or just keep saying I’ll be assessing it next month. If he doesn’t sign before season everyone will know he is off even the players.

It’s a bit catch-22. Things won’t improve unless we buy players but according to some(I don’t agree) we aren’t signing players because Guardiola is leaving....

I thought he left with our blessing? Can't recall any issues?

Arsenal's people approached Arteta directly without permission from City as I recall and came up to the north to hold discussions with him . City found out once this was done.

Pep made reference to Arsenal during his attack on the clubs who were lokking to undermine City - post win at CAS.

Hmmm last season you say, runner up in the prem, SF FA Cup, Last 8 of CL, and League cup winners. There was a time not so very long ago..................................................
We dine at the top table now. Beaten by bang average bottlers Arsenal in the cup, ditto Lyon in the champions League. Didn't get within an asses roar of the dippers in the league. The league cup win was lovely but to suggest last season was anything other than a bitter disappointment wouldn't reflect expectations at City now .

I hope he signs an extension ,it's only my opinion and i have no inside knowledge but i think he'll go after this season.
Especially if we have another season

That’s fair enough if your standard is winning the league is classed as a good season.

At what point does the club look at succession? Should there be a plan in place now? If not at what point do they need a decision from Pep by? Are they waiting to see the environment post-covid? Is there someone at the club they want to give the reins to? Someone needs to be actively managing this situation or come the summer even managers that are available now, may not be.

When you think about it, this is actually a unique situation. I can't think of any other instances where a managers contract runs down to a final season like this. In almost all situations where that has happened it's because the club hasn't made a decision about the manager. It is odd that it's the manager who's got the power in this relationship.

They’ll have a succession plan in place that addresses the potential loss of all key staff due to contract completion, injury or illness.
It will be a main feature in their 1, 3 and 5 year plans and they’ll have a list of potential Pep replacements that are tracked for availability and cost of compensation if they need to be taken from another club.
Succession planning is a business basic in all industries nowadays and Pep will be sure to have input into who’s considered as a step-in for his role.
I hope that Bielsa’s being considered and that his time at Leeds is his learning curve for a post as coach with us.

A bitter disappointment really is over doing it. Frankly as far back as this time last year when it became apparent we were not replacing Kompany and strengthening the defence, nor addressing the misfiring forward line that despite winning the treble had shown in harder times squandering chances would at some point bite us savagely in the arse...and so it came to pass. Chuck in the suspicion that the powers that be wanted very much for Liverpool to win the league and I for one was pretty much expecting much of what took place last season from the off.

Good post and fully agree. That isn't being entitled as a supporter either, nor is it disregarding where we used to be as a club in decades past. Based on where we should be last season was poor

Are you really saying last season was a good season, with the money we've spent ?
It was a fantastic season based on the City of the 80's and 90's but we aren't that City anymore.......i must admit, there are numerous times that i miss those days hugely, yeah, even though we were shit

I'd argue Pellegrini was going despite De Bruyne and Sterling arriving. Txiki signings.
