He performed then, the club had to make a decision based on probability. It was always unlikely Otamendi would maintain that sort of form. The worst part is we essentially agreed to having absolutely no resale value on him the second he signed a deal worth 130k a week.

He's been past his best since we extended his contract. You can talk about hindsight if you want but the fact of the matter is that it was a stupid decision.
Clubs like Sevilla won't even take him as part of a payment for a replacement. Now we're stuck with an over the hill centreback on big wages and it's obviously hindering our ability to bring in a replacement.
I don't blame him. It's a short career so get your money while you can. I blame the club for dishing out a stupid contract to an ageing player at the very first sign of them turning out to be the player we bought after three years of trying.
