I have seen ur other post saying we don't need a lb, a mid instead...i kinda agree...but Alaba is still only 28 , transfer fee should be relatively cheap....so I would be happy to have him and more importantly his UCL winning experience here.

Alaba could play midfield for us?

He has all the attributes to be a fernandinho.

Also if he did play inverted LB it would be very similar to the system we played vs. Wolves with Alaba and Rodri as a 2 sitting in front of Laporte-Dias-Walker.

That feels like a really solid back 5.

For Jack Gaughan and Paul Hirst to release articles at the same time is clearly a brief either from the club or someone close to it. Us looking at Alaba is nothing new or interesting - us still looking at Alaba this close to deadline is interesting. If we’d been told he wasn’t interested we wouldn’t still be looking.

Hopefully we manage to convince him, but no other English side has even attempted to sign him makes me skeptical he wants to come.

Chelsea or United surely would have attempted at least.

I don’t disagree, but players can change their mind. If he isn’t signing a deal, and Davies is first choice, and the relationship to the club and fans has gone a bit sour, he might have decided it’s time to move on rather than stay another year at Bayern.

All hypothetical of course but I wouldn’t read much into his perceived past feelings.

Yes, that's what I also posted. It's a clear club brief.

Maybe , there have been some positive indication from the players camp

Yes, alaba interest has always been well known...but so close to window closing , 2 journos sharing this interest at the same time is clearly a club brief.

Atleast that's my assumption and more importantly hope!!

Might be a leak rather than a brief. If it is a brief, it would suggest they think they'll get him.

Leaving it until less than a week until the window shuts to try and get a LB is a bit desperate by the club.

I hope they succeed but its still bad planning and desperate.

Plus not getting an energetic midfielder to replace/rotate with Fernandinho?

No idea what they were thinking this summer.

I know this sounds like some mad conspiracy theory but if it’s true that we were to buy a left back next year rather than this year is it possible that we were waiting for Alaba’s contract to run out? So now we just pushed forward this project? Okay probably not but oh well

Do you think the piece on Tagliafico is also a club brief? I’m more keen on him frankly.[/QUOTE]

I think the club saw against Leicester that it’ll be a long and tough season with Mendy on LB-position. Leicester is not even the best attacking team and they picked Mendy apart. I understand their reasoning. What’s the point of signing Aké and Dias if we still struggle at left back?

Unless Alaba lowers his wage demands I can't see it happening. He's asking to be paid more than what KDB earns. All reports from Germany tho, the most recent report was that either they give him a 400k per week contract or he sees out final year. Doesn't seem the type of move we'd make
